Last updated March 15, 2024

Illustration of a folk tale of "The Buddha who disappeared in Yoshimitsu Teratani"

Once upon a time, there was a great monk in the Kamakura period. Every day, I continued my journey while doing thankful teaching in the village and this village, and arrived on the shores of a large lake where Suwa Taisha in Shinano is enshrined.
When I went around the villages around it, crossed a long mountain hill, and looked back to Kai-kuni, I noticed two snakes coming along. The monk is kind
"Where are you going?"
When I heard them, the two were holding their mouths
"We were serving Suwa Myojin, but we came along with the desire to be a disciple of the superior. Please add it to your companion."
I'll ask you to do it.
"It's hard on your journey, but if you're all right."
I was allowed to accompany him.
In this way, the monk and the two snakes entered Sagami-kuni after a long journey and came to the village of Akuwa, but one died due to the fatigue of the painful journey.
Later, a temple called Yugyoji Temple was built on the outskirts of Fujisawa.
As the founder of the Toki sect, the monk was inspired by many people, both known as Ippenjojin and Yugyojin. But what the superior was always pity of the man was a companion snake who died in the village of Akuwa.
Therefore, for the snake, and in order to comfort the spirits of the old people who opened Akuwa, a temple was built on the hill of Akuwa, and Amida of Ichisan Yatsuwake was Zenko-ji as the principal god. I named it. The villagers also bought various Buddhist utensils and joined hands with Amida with the superiors.
A few years have passed, the world was disturbed, and in the Warring States period, fierce battles were spread in this village. The people of Akuwa together with the superiors of Yugyoji Temple in Fujisawa and Kazuhisa of Zenko-ji Temple, dig a hole in the back of the valley of the village, and hide the treasures related to the main god and Ippenjin deep inside the hole. And blocked the entrance. The temples and village houses were burnt down, and people escaped from their lives to Motoyama in Fujisawa and were able to be saved thanks to the Buddha.
As time went and the world changed, Zenko-ji Temple was never rebuilt, but even now I went on the hollow hole that hidden Buddha.
"Don't flapping too much. If the world is peaceful, please leave me as soon as possible. I'd like to talk to you."
That's why you can hear a sound like a wooden fish.
