Last updated March 15, 2024

Illustration of a folk tale of "Otoshi no Fire"

Once upon a time, a mother and son lived together in Seya Village. It is the night of New Year's Eve (Omisoka) of the year when his son reached his wife. For the first time in this house, the mother-in-law (Shuto) is the first time in this house.
"Don't put out the fire of the furnace tonight until tomorrow morning. It is because it is the standard of this house to make a New Year's Day celebration with that fire."
I say, and more
"It is my wife's duty to protect the fire of New Year's Eve."
And I fell asleep first.
The bride, as he said, was watching carefully so as not to light the fire of the furnace, but he fell asleep to get tired in the daytime.
When he woke up, the fire was completely extinguished and turned ashes. Now, even though he was told so harsh that he could not be married, and he jumped out into Kadoguchi
"Toumujin, please help me."
I suppose it.
Then, from the darkness before dawn, chan, the sound of a gong was heard, and a small light came. It was a procession of funerals. Give up your wife,
"I'm in trouble turning out a big fire. Please lend me the lantern."
And the man in the procession was.
"I can't lend only fire, but if I'm going to have a funeral, I'll leave it all."
I answered.
Although it was not Engi early on New Year's Day, the bride, who thought that fire was the most important now, had all funerals in the barn. In this way, the furnace was finally set up with the fire that we had divided and reached New Year's Day.
The bride confessed the whole thing to the husband who got up. My husband is
"Did you care so much about your mother's preference and your house's rules?"
While taking care of her wife
"I'm sorry to make the funeral a poor funeral."
And they went to the barn and put their hands on the coffin and opened the lid. Surprisingly, in the coffin, gold and silver ovals were dazzling in the light of New Year's Day
It means that the mother-in-law understood well by her mother-in-law, and then the family lived happily for a long time.
