Katabira River
Last Updated March 23, 2021
Katabira River originates in the area of Kamikawai, Asahi-ku. The tributaries such as Naka Horikawa and Ima Igawa are combined and flow along the Sotetsu Line.
In the vicinity of Yokohama-sta.-nishiguchi, it is divided into the Ishizaki River, the Aratama River, and the faction Aratama River, and pours into Yokohama Port.
The name of Katabira River is said to have originated in the past, the name Katahira (Katahira) because the coast of the estuary on the north side was gentle and only one side was flat.
In 1958, typhoon No. 22 (Kano River Typhoon) triggered full-scale river renovation work. The enforcement section of Yokohama City is a section upstream from the junction of Naka-Horikawa and flows through the border between the former capital Okamura and Futamatagawa Village. This section was almost unrenovated and meandering basin. Therefore, the renovation plan normal cuts meandering so that it is as close to a straight line as possible.

Introduction of Waterside
Katabira River Waterfront Green Road
This water park has been maintained as part of the "Promenade Project for Water, Greenery and History" so that citizens can get close to the waterside.
This is a park that makes effective use of the riverbed space (Naka Horikawa confluence-Tsurumai Bridge, extension 600m), and makes use of valley scenery such as topography, nature, and water flow. Construction was started in 1983 and completed in 1988.
Improvement of riverside promenades
Between Torigoe Bridge and Seiraiji Bridge, we are implementing riverside roads with planting trees using river management passages and old riverbeds. Because the river is deeply dug in the Katabira River, the upper part of the seawall is gentle, the upper part of the seawall is laid, and the greening block to reduce the concrete surface.
