Izumi River
Last Updated March 23, 2021
The Izumi River originates in Seya-cho, Seya-ku, goes south along Seya Ward and Izumi Ward in parallel with Sakaigawa at the western end of the city, and joins Sakaigawa at Matanocho and Totsuka-ku.
The source is "Seya Citizen's Forest". It is one of the few rivers that preserve the Tando landscape, which is a feature of Yokohama's hometown. From the confluence of Sakaigawa to Futatsu Bridge, the Urban Ogawa River Rehabilitation Project (currently shifted to the Urban Infrastructure River Rehabilitation Project) We're making improvements. In both Seya Ward and Izumi Ward, there are relatively many natural landscapes along the river, such as green spaces, mansion forests, and guardian forests.
Introduction of waterside
Waterside of Jizo Hara
The name of Jizo Hara is derived from the old name of Izumi-cho.
Here, we wanted to propose the charm of a new river. Play on the waterside, rest on the waterside. I want you to feel the fun of the river more closely. A river where you can hear the cheers of children, a river where you can feel the breath of nature, and a river that becomes one of the attractions of the city. Such a wish to create a river is included in the waterside of Jizo Hara.
Izumi River Waterfront Plaza
In the section from Kusagi Bridge downstream to Sekishima Bridge (Izumi-cho, Izumi-ku), a plaza (approximately 5,000 square meters) integrated with the river was developed using the land on the right bank created by shortcuts due to river improvement. . It consisted of gentle slopes along the road, and a plaza was set up on the river side. The border line is made of logs to create a step of about 50 cm in height, and the riverbed uses pebbles to set up rivers and pools. This gentle embankment and lawn square is an open hydrophilic space. (completed in 1984)
