Izumi River
Last Updated March 23, 2021
The Izumi River originates in the vicinity of Seya-cho, Seya-ku, Seya Ward and Izumi Ward in parallel with the Sakaigawa River at the western end of the city, and joins Sakaigawa in Matanocho, Totsuka-ku.
The headwaters are "Seya Shimin-no-Mori". It is one of the few rivers that retain the Tando landscape, which is a characteristic of Yokohama's hometown. From the confluence of Sakaigawa to Futatsu Bridge, the Urban Ogawa River Rehabilitation Project (currently shifted to an urban infrastructure river improvement project) We are making renovations. Both Seya Ward and Izumi Ward have a relatively large number of natural landscapes, such as green spaces, mansion forests, and guardian forests.
Introduction of Waterside
Waterside of Jizo Hara
Jizo Hara's name is derived from the old name of Izumi-cho.
Here, I wanted to propose a new river charm. Play at the waterside, rest at the waterside. I want you to feel the fun of the river. A river where children can hear the cheers, a river where you can feel the breath of nature, and a river that is one of the attractions of the town. Such a wish for river creation is put on the waterside of Jizo Hara.
Izumi River Waterfront Plaza
In the section from the downstream Kusagi Bridge to Sekijima Bridge (Izumi-cho, Izumi-ku), a plaza (approximately 5,000 square meters) integrated with the river was constructed using the land on the right bank side caused by a shortcut due to river renovation. did. The road was composed of gentle slopes, and a plaza was set up on the river side. On the border line, a step of about 50 cm in height was made of logs, and the riverbed was set up using pebbles to provide seas and pools. This gentle embankment and lawn square are an open hydrophilic space. (completed in 1984)
