Last Updated March 23, 2021

The Akuwa River is a tributary of the Sakaigawa River. From the vicinity of Mitsukyo in Seya Ward, it flows south in parallel with the prefectural road Seya Kashiwao Line, and joins Hirato Nagatanikawa near Sakamoto Bridge on the JR Tokaido Line in Kashiwao-cho, Totsuka-ku to form the Kashio River.

Mahoroba River Creation experimental project

Mahoroba

This project is a river environment improvement planned with the aim of making the Akuwa River, which flows through important areas where hospitals and nursing homes are concentrated along the river, a "river friendly to everyone", including the disabled and the elderly. "Mahoroba" is taken from a song in "Kojiki" Keiyukiki.

"Wa is the country's Mahorobata, Aogakiyama Hidden Mt. Washi Uruhashi." This song was sung by Yamato Takerunomikoto in memory of Yamato's country. Surrounded by mountains that are surrounded by Wa is really beautiful. "In other words, Japan where I live (Wa) has enough charm as a utopia (mahoroba nature) and sings the feeling that it is beautiful. If you come far away, you will feel nostalgic and want to return early.

In other words, "Mahoroba" originally means "a place that is excellent as a place where people live."

Development of promenades along the riverside

Promenade

From the confluence of Na Segawa to Ise Weir Bridge, we use the old riverbed as a river management passage on the right bank to maintain a planted riverside promenade. Located behind the shopping street along the prefectural road, it is a place closely related to daily life such as commuting, going to school, shopping, and walking.

In the upper reaches of Kamomebashi Bridge, we built flower beds along the river by installing high water beds on the seawalls and waterfronts using the old riverbed. In addition, the area around Gokenbashi has been integrated with the bus stop.
