Q

Property tax on sale of houses in the middle of the year…

Last Updated May 24, 2022

Q
I sold land and houses in February of this year, but I received a property tax notice. Why is it?
A

Property tax is levied on those who are registered as owners in the registry as of January 1 of that year. Therefore, even if you sell land or a house in the middle of the year, the tax will be fully levied for that year. In such a case, the method of paying taxes is often negotiated between the seller and the buyer through a contract.
If a house is demolished in the middle of the year, the tax for that year will be taxed in full.

※An application is required to change the owner of an unregistered house. For more information, please contact the House in Tax Division, the ward office of the ward where the assets are located.
