Subsidies for the cost of testing for hereditary breast cancer ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC)
Most cancers are not inherited, even if some family members or relatives have cancer. However, in rare cases, some people have "genes that are prone to cancer" and may be passed on to the generations of children and grandchildren. Yokohama City is targeting those who have inherited breast cancer ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC: Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer) in their families to check whether they have genes that are likely to cause cancer in the future. Will be launched for the first time in Japan. HBOC is said to have a "pathological change" in the gene BRCA1 or BRCA2, which is said to have a high risk of developing breast, ovarian, prostate, and pancreas.
