No.13 Gion Boat (Yokohama Intangible Folk Cultural Property) was held
Last Updated July 22, 2024
"Gion Boat" was held on Sunday, July 7 in Tomioka, Kanazawa Ward under the blue sky of summer.
It is a traditional event that has been handed down since the founding of Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine, which has a tradition of more than 800 years, and has been designated as the first intangible folk cultural property of Yokohama City.
After a series of ceremonies at Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine, "Kayafune" is carried on two wooden boats from Tomioka Namiki Funadamari Park and washed off the coast.
The rowing on the way home is the highlight of the festival. When the two boats returning from the offshore pass through the tide bridge, the audience leans forward and watches the return. It is held every year in July. Please take a look.
