Sokoji Temple
Last Updated March 12, 2021
From Kougaya Park, go down the slope beside Kougaya Elementary School, and you will go to Sokoji Temple, which is drawn at the foot of Mt. Gongen at Kanagawa Station Nakazukai.
At the time of the opening of the port, Dr. Hebon, an American missionary and doctor, had opened a medical treatment center here. A stone monument commemorating this is set up on the grounds.
Hebon, well known for his "Hebbon Romaji", completed the first Japanese-English dictionary in Japan, and translated the Bible. Later, he was a person who contributed to education in Japan, such as establishing Meiji Gakuin. (Pamphlet on the History of Kanagawajuku)
