Soko-ji

From Kougaya Park, go down the slope beside Kougaya Elementary School, you will come to Sokoji Temple, which is drawn at the foot of Mt. Gongen at Kanagawa Station Chuzukai.
At the time of the opening of the port, Dr. Heebbon, an American missionary and doctor, had opened a clinic here. A stone monument to commemorate this is set up on the grounds.
Hebon was well known for his "Hebon-style Roman letters", completed the first Japanese-English dictionary in Japan, and also translated the Bible. Later, he founded Meiji Gakuin, and was a person who was dedicated to education in Japan. (Published in Kanagawa-juku History Pamphlet)
