In the first half of 2022, the ports of Yokohama Port increased 3.0% year-on-year to 5.37 million tons, up 3.0% year-on-year due to the prolonged spread of COVID-19, Russia's invasion of Ukraine this year, and the lockdown in Shanghai. Container cargo volumes also increased 2.1% year-on-year to 2.07 million tons, approaching the pre-COVID-19 level.
Especially in domestic trade, container cargo volume was strong, up 31.6% year-on-year, exceeding the level before the COVID-19 crisis. This is probably due to measures to strengthen international feeders by coastal containerships, which is an effort to promote international container strategic ports.
