"North Sea Industry Co., Ltd."

What is the best for employees? Thinking from the essence is true support. (Representative Director: Hironori Kono)

Last Updated July 29, 2024

Corporate introduction

North Sea Industry Co., Ltd. has been engaged in a wide range of businesses since 1995, including general civil engineering, pavement, water supply, landscaping, and power equipment construction. Initially, the company focuses on electric power facilities, communal ditch construction, pipeline construction, etc., and is currently actively engaged in public works ordered by Kanagawa Prefecture and Yokohama City. The number of employees is 20. Of these, four are female employees. This time, Mr. Hironori Kono, the representative, talked about women's working styles and creating an environment where they can play an active role in the construction industry, which has a strong image of being centered on men.

Question 1. What do you think about how women work in the construction industry?

Among the construction industry, the recruitment of women is progressing in architecture. The rest is a major general contractor. It's true that small and medium-sized businesses like us are not easy. If you are a major company, you can set up an office at the construction site and secure a place for women to work there, but it is difficult to do civil engineering work where the site moves daily. However, instead of giving up there, if you clarify the site where women can be placed or not, it will be easier to hire. Also, if you can't work on site for a long time, there are jobs that women who can pay attention to detail, such as creating inspection documents at the site, cost management, and organizing photos, so if you are interested after general recruitment, "Would you like to do it?" If you think about the traditional field-based work, women will not be able to enter the construction industry. In particular, small and medium-sized enterprises are required to expand their entrances, so our companies are recruiting nationwide through Hello Work. In addition, Yokohama City has a lot of work in both the public and private sectors, and is a city that is attractive both culturally and naturally. I think it's an environment where you can grow as an individual by placing yourself there.

Question 2. Do you have any concerns about hiring female employees?

It's not limited to female employees, but show in attitudes and actions that "you are necessary for the company." Our company has 4 women. The numbers may be small, but I don't think it's a problem if there are many or few employees. The problem is not to lose sight of the essence. As part of the child care support system, if there is a sudden call from a nursery school, we can quickly leave the company and, in some cases, help them take a break. The current nursery school is called as soon as the fever comes out, but what do women want at that time? If you want to go home and stay with your child, I tell you, "Please stay with your child until you are completely cured." As is the case with male employees, you can take a month off because you decide on your own vacation while watching your own site schedule. Until now, we have a track record of taking consecutive holidays for 40 days using refresh vacations. It doesn't make sense if you don't use it even if you set up the system. You can go to work with your children and play in the kids' room, and in the case of baby/infant you can also set up a crib. A sense of security for raising children often leads to concentration. Anyway, it is important that the company and employees are on an equal footing. We are focusing on building relationships that each other can think of "for this person" or "for this company".

Question 3. Is there any effect on management by creating a work environment in which women can play an active role?

Women's perspectives and senses have a positive effect on the entire company. We have set up a place where it is easy for employees to talk to, not just women, but I feel that the role of women is also a major support in management. At the meeting, they will give more and more opinions, and even if the opinion is somewhat out of sight, ask them to speak freely. If we create such a place, the number of employees who demonstrate leadership as well as active remarks will increase. This was a nice miscalculation. In the long run, I think that creating such an environment will lead to the future of the company. In addition, when we set up an environment where children can play in the company, we also have the advantage that offices are very organized and kept cleaner than ever before. If you have children in the company, the atmosphere is good. Call a name or touch your hands. Banks and government offices sometimes come to the office, but everyone sympathizes with this environment. I also raised five children, but now I realize the power of children. I feel that working to create a comfortable working environment has a good effect in various aspects.

Question 4. Finally, do you have any thoughts on the recent "support for women's active participation"?

In terms of support for active participation, I think it is important to create an environment. At construction sites, improve the site environment, such as setting up women-only toilets, rest rooms, changing rooms, and consultation desks for sexual harassment. Improve your skills by preparing education system and supporting qualifications so that you can play an active role in a wide range of tasks. However, I think it is most important to create a well-balanced work environment so that women do not despise men by putting too much effort into supporting women's advancement. Recently, men have also been actively involved in raising children. Some people become full-time husbands. We need to promote the support of men who work while actively working on child care. Now, the family environment is different. As a company, we never speak privately, but we have created a system that allows us to take any consultation if we have any consultation. The most important thing is to look at that person. The position is different, but as a human being, he is equal. If you are satisfied with the system without looking at others, it is rude to both women and men. There is no border there. I believe that thinking about the essence of the problem will lead to support activities.

Since I majored in oil painting at an art university, I wanted to balance my work and production activities even after graduating from university. I met this company because I was close to my house and worked as a part-time job in college. After being hired as a full-time employee, he first acquired the third grade of bookkeeping, and then acquired the second grade of construction industry accountant. I started studying with the desire to contribute to the company as much as possible and to gain confidence, but from this time I think my attitude toward work has changed. The range of work has expanded, and the number of people who move independently from themselves has increased. I was also rewarding, such as being assigned to work in advertising design. Also, thanks to the president's favor, I am glad that you can decorate the picture I drew in the company. The appeal of this company is that each employee works lively. It's full of vigor because each other recognizes each other's work and works. I myself sometimes go to work with my children, but it's encouraging that you welcome me with warm eyes. After this, I will enter maternity leave again, but I will always come back again. This time, I would like to aim for the first grade of construction accountant. I want to give back to a company that values me more.
