State of Dementia Forum

Tsuzuki Ward   Dementia Forum was held on September 12!

On September 12, 2021, the 13th Tsuzuki Ward   Dementia Forum was held at the Tsuzuki Ward   Office as the main venue, given the limited number of participants at each venue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, five community care plazas in the city were also distributed online as satellite venues.
Participants with dementia (Ambassador Kanagawa Orange) and experts talked and appealed through experiences about how to live hope even if they had dementia, and about 150 participants attended.
The forum was hosted by the Tsuzuki Ward   Dementia Support Liaison Committee and the Tsuzuki Ward   Office. It has been held every year since 2009, and this time it is 13 times.
The theme this time is "Hope for Dementia". A person with juvenile dementia, who serves as Ambassador Kanagawa Orange, was on stage to make his experience widely known. Under the progress of Yoji Kawanaka, a coordinator for juvenile dementia support at the Yokohama City General Health and Medical Center, we had a talk with Dr. Masako Kobayashi, a dementia support physician.
Prior to the dialogue, Mayor Tomoya Sato said, "It is important to build a community-friendly society. This time, it is a valuable opportunity to listen to the voices of the parties. "
The party who spoke on the stage pointed out that "the family has many forgetfulness, the inability to organize the documents, and angry," and as a result of the consultation, I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's type dementia." "Let's do what I can do. " In addition, we are working hard to avoid calling out to the delivery destination "Is there any change?" "I also support young people with disabilities as" walking volunteers "," "I go to art school twice a month, I participate in a personal meeting held by prefectures and cities. " "If you have dementia, you won't be able to do everything. I want people who are trying to do their best to give them a place to play an active part. Even if you have dementia, that's not the end, so I want to continue contributing to the community like myself. If you don't challenge, I will no longer be me. "A lot of people expressed sympathy in the questionnaire of the participants.
Masako Kobayashi, a support physician, said, "Dementia varies from person to person and it is difficult to make a definitive diagnosis, but the symptoms and progression of each person are different. It is important to open the path of success by paying attention to what you can do than what you can't do. It is necessary to work throughout the region so that the desire to live in your own life can be realized. "
We will continue to work with the aim of deepening understanding of dementia and leading to "creating a town where people can live with peace of mind even if they have dementia."
