Botswana Athlete Team and Chigasaki Elementary School fourth grader conducted a Zoom exchange!
The Republic of Botswana and Tsuzuki Ward Chigasaki Elementary School have been interacting with each other since the 4th Tokyo International Conference on African Development held in Yokohama in 2008.
To welcome the Botswana Olympic team visiting Yokohama for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, some of the elementary school student and others who have implemented various initiatives to welcome the Olympic team in Botswana, who said, "I want to meet Botswana but I am sorry toelementary school student."
Meanwhile, there was information that I could interact with the Botswana team on Zoom in a hurry, so I prepared in a hurry.
On the day of the event, six track and field athletes and one swimmer participated on multiple terminals with the support board delivered.
elementary school student's "What kind of food do you eat?" In response to the question "What kind of practice do you do?", "I eat beef well! I'm practicing running, even though it's a competition! ".
The fourth graders learned Botswana national anthem when they were in their third grade and became familiar with them before they could sing.
To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, this time we played the national anthem without singing, and cheered with clapping. Mayor Tsuzuki Sato and Deputy Ambassador Daniel Kasa of the Botswana Embassy in Japan also participated and encouraged the players.
Although there were audio problems on the way, elementary school student cheered with banners and flags of the Botswana flag, the players raised their voices of surprise and joy, and it was the moment when the children cheered. The Embassy also gave a message saying, "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our team for so much support."
Although it was a short time, it was a valuable opportunity for interaction between the players and elementary school student. Please pay attention to the success of the Botswana team in the future.
