The Water Supply Corporation, which has jurisdiction over Medan City and its surroundings, and the JICA Grassroots Technical Cooperation Project “Project to Improve Capacity for Safe 24 Hours Water Supply Corporation in Indonesia (Special Regional Revitalization)” Has been implemented since April 2023 (Reiwa 5). In addition to providing technical guidance with the aim of improving the capacity of its employees in water distribution management and water purification treatment, we also introduce the excellent technologies of member companies of the Yokohama Water Business Council and provide support for improving local water conditions.

Targets

Improve the capacity of Kita-Sumatra Water Supply Corporation staff for safe 24-hour water supply
Output 1: Improvement of water distribution management capacity
Output 2: Improvement of water treatment capacity
Output 3: Technology introduction of Japanese companies


Local Activities

Output 1: Improvement of water distribution management capacity

A baseline survey was conducted to improve water distribution management capacity. A total of 10 water pressures are measured using a water pressure gauge, and the purpose of water distribution management is explained.
In fiscal 2024, we plan to analyze the data obtained, such as the results of water pressure surveys, and propose improvements to improve water distribution management capabilities through blocking and other means.

Output 2: Improvement of water treatment capacity

In order to improve the water purification treatment capacity, the Sungar Water Purification Plant was used as a pilot water purification plant, and the water treatment process, water quality, and the operation status of mechanical equipment such as pumps were investigated, and issues were confirmed.
In fiscal 2024, we are considering ways to improve the processing efficiency of sedimentation pond to reduce the load on filtration ponds and introducing spare pump equipment.
