Water Works Bureau International Contribution 50th Anniversary

Water supply in Yokohama City was started in 1887 (Meiji 20) as the first modern water supply in Japan. Taking advantage of the technology and experience cultivated over more than 135 years of history, Water Works Bureau has been working on solving water problems in developing countries such as Asia and Africa since 1973, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023 (refer to Water Works Bureau's international contribution initiatives).

Water Works Bureau's international contribution began with the dispatch of staff to Afghanistan in 1973. Based on the Colombo Project, two staff members were dispatched to provide technical guidance on construction management and supervision of waterworks construction work in four cities (Mazarisharif, Jarabad, Kandahar, and Herat).

We will continue to contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goal 6 in the future, and we ask for your understanding.
