Procedure for abolition of private graveyards

Overview

Reinterment permission and abolition permission of graveyard are required to abolish private graveyards.

Those who intend to abolish private graveyards
※If the applicant is different from the graveyard user, it is necessary to attach a document showing the relationship with the graveyard user.

Major Procedures and Flows

Explains the case where the graveyard is abolished after reinterment of all ashes from the graveyard to be abolished to a new graveyard.
※If you have already been reintermented and do not have a copy of your reinterment permit, you may need to dig a graveyard. For more information, please contact Medical Care Bureau Health Sanitation Division.

1. Reinterment Permit Application

Apply for a reinterment permit at the ward office Family Registry Division in the ward where the cemetery is located. For details, please refer to the page on procedures for reinterment (movement of ashes).
※As graveyards are necessary for abolition permission application, please keep copy of reinterment permit.

2. Reinterment

Take out ashes from the current graveyard, submit a reinterment permit to managers such as graveyards at the reinterment location, and bury and store the ashes.

3. Removal of tombstones, leveling, etc.

Please leave the land vacant by removing or leveling the gravestone of the graveyard to be abolished.
※When trying out a graveyard, please record with photos that the remains are not buried or buried.

4. Prior consultation on application for abolition permission

Please consult with Medical Care Bureau Health Sanitation Division about details of the abolition procedure after reinterment and until you apply for abolition permission.

5. Application for abolition permission such as graveyards

Documents required for application: Please submit 2 copies of all copies.

Please use abolition permission application (word: 18KB) such as style downloading graveyards.
You can also give it to Health Sanitation Division Medical Care Bureau.

A sketch

Shows the location of roads, schools, parks, and houses in areas where the horizontal distance from the boundary of the graveyard site is within 200 meters, and the horizontal distance from these facilities (excluding roads) to the boundary of the graveyard site Thing.
※Please display the area of the cemetery with a red line, etc. on a city planning map (topographic map) with a scale of 1/2500 or a map equivalent to this.

Certificate of entry of the place of application

Certificate of entry prescribed in Article 119, Paragraph 1 of the Real Estate Registration Act (Act No. 123 of 2004) pertaining to the site of the graveyard
※Certificate and issued within 6 months from the date of issue
※If the applicant and the registered owner are different, please contact us in advance.

A copy of the official map of the application site

Map prescribed in Article 14, Paragraph 1 of the Real Estate Registration Act (Act No. 123 of 2004) pertaining to the site of the graveyard
※Please display the application area with a red line.

Documents describing the reasons for the application

Please state the reason for the application and the name of the applicant. There is no format specification.
※If a person different from the applicant performs the procedure at the counter, please indicate so.

Copy of reinterment permit

Copy of reinterment permit or document indicating that reinterment has been completed
※Make sure that all the remains in the graveyard have been reintermented.

Please submit abolition permission application such as graveyards and attached documents to ward office Health Sanitation Division window of ward where graveyard to be abolished.

6. Permission to abolish graveyards, etc.

After the abolition permission decision, graveyards will be issued at the same ward office Health Sanitation Division window as at the time of application.
