Early voting and absentee voting

Last Updated November 15, 2024

You can vote even if you cannot go to the polling place on the election date.
The voting system has a system that takes into account various situations, such as being unable to vote on the election date, going to a place other than the area where you live for work or travel, or entering a facility.

Early vote

Elections are based on the principle of voting at polling places on the election date (voting date).
If you are unable to vote due to work or travel on the election date, submit an oath stating that it falls under the grounds, even before the election date, using the early voting system, You can vote in the same way as the date (put the ballot directly into the ballot box).

Period during which you can vote

From the day after the announcement date of the election (notification date) to the day before the election day

Those who can vote

On the day of the voting day, those who are expected to fall under any of the following reasons

Voting place

You can vote at any early polling place in the ward, regardless of your Address.
We will inform you of the installation period and time when the election is near.

Absentee voting

There are the following methods for absentee voting.

The place to vote in the election is, in principle, the municipality where the resident certificate is located. For this reason, if you do not move resident certificate to the new municipal office, you will not be able to vote in the new Address district. If you have moved to school or find a job, don't forget to move resident certificate.

Absentee voting at your place of stay (outside Kohoku ward)

If you stay in another municipality for work or other reasons and cannot return to Kohoku Ward during the election period, you can request a ballot from the Kohoku Ward Election Commission and vote for the absentee at the Election Commission of your accommodation.
In the case of absentee voting, the ballot for absentee voting at the place of residence must arrive at the Kohoku Ward Election Commission by the day of voting. If your accommodation is far away from Kohoku Ward, such as remote areas or remote islands, please proceed as soon as possible in anticipation of the time required for mailing.
The place and time for absentee voting at your accommodation vary depending on the municipality, so be sure to contact the Election Commission of your accommodation.
