Yokohama City is strengthening measures against global warming and energy measures to realize a decarbonized "Zero Carbon Yokohama" by 2050, and is promoting initiatives to realize a sustainable urban model.
To date, we have concluded a partnership agreement on renewable energy with 14 local governments that have abundant renewable energy resources. This time, we have concluded a new cooperation agreement with Ogata Village, Akita Prefecture, which has been selected as the “Decarbonization Preced Area (Note 1)” as well as Yokohama City. This is the first time in Japan (Note 2) to cooperate among decarbonized pre-decarbonized regions.
Through this partnership agreement, we aim to realize a decarbonized society by strengthening mutual cooperation based on the philosophy of the “Regional Recycling Symbiosis Area (Note 3)” that maximizes the vitality of the region along with the cooperation of renewable energy.

(Note 1)
In order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the Ministry of the Environment publicly solicits based on the "Regional Decarbonization Roadmap", the region will realize requirements such as "substantial zero CO2 emissions associated with power consumption in the consumer sector (home sector, business and other sectors)" according to regional characteristics by FY2030. In the first selection (April 2022), 26 regions were selected.

(Note 2)
Excluding joint proposals by multiple local governments.

(Note 3)
The concept of revitalizing the region by complementing and supporting neighboring areas and local resources while each region makes use of local resources according to their characteristics and forming an independent and decentralized society. It was proposed in the Fifth Basic Environmental Plan (decided by the Cabinet in April 2018).
