In Tsurumi Ward, located in a corner of the Keihin Industrial Zone, many people from Okinawa gathered as workers in the industrial zone and came to be called Okinawa Town. This time, we will report on Tsurumi Ward Okinawa Town, where you can feel Okinawa in Yokohama.

Tsurumi and Okinawa
Tsurumi Ward Okinawa Town has a variety of Okinawan culture, including Okinawan restaurants, Okinawan entertainment groups, and events that are difficult to see outside the prefecture.
In addition, one of the elements that can be realized that there are many people from Okinawa, is the existence of the Tsurumi Okinawa Kenjinkai (hereinafter referred to as the Kenjinkai). The Kenjinkai was established in 1953 with the gathering of Okinawans living in Tsurumi Ward.
At the Kenjinkai, it is said that only Tsurumi holds tournaments outside Okinawa nationwide, such as the "Okitsuru Kakuriki Tournament", which is very rare outside Okinawa Prefecture, and the "Naka Dori Road Junie" parades around the city with Acer for the purpose of ancestor memorial service.
You can enjoy Okinawa in Tsurumi!
On the first floor of the Kenjinkaikan, there was the Okinawa Product Center. Seasonings and foods that are often used by Okinawan people, are ordered and sold from Okinawa, and a total of about 1,000 items such as souvenirs are available. Okinawa soba and Serta Anda Guy are manufactured in Tsurumi Ward!
In addition, according to the "Okinawa Town Tsurumi Map", there are 15 restaurants where you can enjoy the taste of Okinawa, and I was surprised at the number of shops. "Okinawa Town Tsurumi Map" can be viewed from the Tsurumi Ward web page.

We talked to Yuta Shimozato, the secretary-general of the Youth Club of the Kenjinkai and the president of the Okinawa Bussan Center, about the moment when you feel Okinawa in Tsurumi.
"I often listen to Okinawan dialects even though I am in Tsurumi. There are many events with roots in Okinawa, such as the only Okinawa Kakuriki (Sumou), Acer, and Tsurumi Uchina Festival that continue outside Okinawa Prefecture. There are so many people from Okinawa Prefecture and those from Tsurumi who like festivals and events, and they have a common connection to like events, so they may feel comfortable to live and comfortable."
Tsurumi feels that Okinawan culture is firmly rooted and everyone can live in.
