Water pipes and household water supply facilities that are separated from Water Works Bureau water pipes buried under roads are property of customers and are managed by them. (Yokohama-shi water supply regulations Article 17 Clause 1 (outside site))
Therefore, even if the amount of water measured by the water meter contains the amount of water leaked, the customer will be required to pay the water charge for the amount of water in principle.
However, leaks from unexposed water pipes, such as underground or inside building walls, may be difficult to detect even if customers are always properly managed, and water charges for the amount of water including leaked water. May also be expensive.
For this reason, there is a system that allows you to reduce a part of the amount of water at the time of the meter reading, including the amount of water leakage, and receive reductions such as water rates only when certain standards are met. . Attention

  • Instead of reducing all the amount of water that is considered to have increased due to water leakage, customers will also be required to bear a part of the amount of water that is considered to have increased.
  • This system does not support the cost of repairing water leakage.

It will be applied upon application from the customer after the fact of water leakage has been identified and the water leakage has been repaired promptly.

What is the fact of water leakage?

It is a leak that occurs between the water meter and the faucet, and is caused by damage or failure of the water supply pipe or water supply equipment in the residential land. In addition, those that are not based on the intention or negligence of the customer or third party.

Application Period

About application period of reduction such as water charges with water leak, we apply for meter reading month including water leak.

It cannot be applied in the following cases.

  • If the customer fails to repair while knowing the fact that water is leaking.
  • When water leaks due to damage caused by construction, etc.
  • Past results When comparing the amount of water used with the amount of water for the month, including the amount of water leaked, and there is no change in the amount of water.
  • When water leaks from connected hoses or equipment due to carelessness such as forgetting to close the faucet.
  • Even if the amount of water including the leak is reduced, the amount charged does not change (if it is within the basic fee) [To the Mechanism of Water Charges
  • If an aging pipe with a high frequency of water leakage occurs after receiving guidance from Water Works Bureau regarding replacement of the pipe.

Documents to be submitted

When the repair of the water leak is completed, the customer himself downloads the “Application for Certification of Water Consumption Due to Water Leakage” below, writes required items, and confirms that the repair has been performed (invoice for water leak repair, receipt, etc.) Please mail or bring it to the water supply office (PDF: 387KB) that has jurisdiction over your water supply location.
In addition, please note that we may ask you to submit again if you have any questions about omissions or repairs in the submitted “Application for Certification of Water Consumption Due to Water Leakage”.
※Please specify the details of the repair (repair parts, replacement parts, etc.) specifically.

※Customers who cannot download the “Application for Certification of Water Consumption Due to Water Leakage” will be mailed to the Water Works Bureau Customer Service Center.
