[Enforced in April 2012] Information accompanying the revision of the Act on Promotion of Specified Non-Profit Activities

In June 2011, the Act on Promotion of Specified Non-Profit Activities, such as changing the competent authority and introducing a certification system, with the aim of further supporting the activities of non-profit organizations (NPOs) and strengthening the establishment of a financial base. (NPO Law) has been revised and will take effect on April 1, 2012.
Please refer to the following documents for the details of the NPO law revision and the accompanying certification system and office work based on the certification system.

Major contents of law revisions, such as changes in the competent authority, addition of fields of activity, submission of business reports, etc., and notification of changes in articles of incorporation and officers.

(Note) Non-profit corporations that have been certified by the Commissioner of the National Tax Agency before March 31, 2012 are certified as non-profit corporations.

In June 2011, a part of the Act on Promotion of Non-Profit Activities was amended to transfer the authority to certify non-profit organizations with offices in Yokohama (from the governor of Kanagawa Prefecture to the The Mayor of Yokohama) and the authority to certify non-profit organizations that can receive tax incentives (from the Commissioner of the National Tax Agency to the The Mayor of Yokohama).
In order to start a new office work, Yokohama City has enacted an ordinance for the Promotion of Specified Non-Profit Activities. (Effective on April 1, 2012)
