Registration (when borrowing books for the first time)

Registration (issue of library card)

Those who can register

  • Those who live, commute, or go to school in Yokohama City
  • Those who live in Kamakura City, Kawasaki City, Zushi City, Fujisawa City, Yamato City, Yokosuka City, Machida City

Registration method

Lending

  • Registration and lending are free of charge.
  • You can rent it anywhere in City Library and return it anywhere.
  • Library cards are common to all Yokohama City Library. (Issuance of one per person)
  • You can borrow 10 books for 2 weeks (14 opening days) with one card.

Attention

  • The library card cannot be used by anyone other than the person himself / herself.
  • Library card number, date of birth, and Phone number are required to register your password. Please be careful when handling.
  • The registration period of the library card is 5 years. At the time of registration renewal, we will check the registration details.

Confirmation documents

Presentation of confirmation documents is necessary/required procedures

  • Registration
  • Change of registration details (Address, name)
  • Registration renewal
  • Report of loss of library card

Please bring a document (original) that confirms the name and address of the applicant.

Example of Confirmation Documents

  • Driver's license
  • Health insurance card
  • Certificates issued by local governments and government agencies. Copy of resident certificate, certificate of family register (certificate of all matters in family register), My Number Card, Handbook for Persons with DisabilitiesPartnership Oath receiptAnd so on. (However, copies of resident certificate, certificate of family register (certificate of all matters of family register) and other non-expiration date must be issued within three months of issuance.)
  • Utility receipt (within 3 months from issuance and with Address specified name, ward name, address, room number, etc.)
  • Student ID card, student handbook
  • Mail sent to the applicant with a postmark of less than 3 months. (If you would like to confirm by mail, please present a cash card, etc. that can identify you. However, this excludes member's cards, etc. that have not passed the identity of the issuer when issuing. )

Attention

  • If there is an expiration date, it must be within the expiration date.
  • In the case of a receipt, etc., please present one within 3 months from the date of issue.
  • If you live outside Yokohama and commute to Yokohama, please also present documents (employee ID card, student ID card, student handbook, etc.) that can confirm your place of work and school. Business cards cannot be used as confirmation documents.
  • If you don't have any documents to confirm your office in the city, please present certificate of employment. If you do not have the style specified at your place of work, please use this style.
  • In principle, procedures by the applicant are required. If it's not convenient, you can take care of your family in living together. If your family is acting on your behalf, please bring your own identification documents.
  • If a person other than the living together family member performs the procedure on behalf of the applicant, please bring the following two items in addition to the identification documents of the applicant.
  • The delegated person (applicant himself) signed his own book.Power of Attorney (PDF: 99KB)
  • proxy/agent's library card (i.e., Address) or documents that confirm the name and address of proxy/agent

When elementary school student and infants under elementary school age perform registration procedures by themselves

  • You can confirm your name and address by mail sent to the applicant. (It is not necessary to present other identification documents together.) If you are under elementary school age, a New Year's card without a postmark is also valid as a confirmation document.
  • When parents come together and register, please bring confirmation documents such as the applicant's health insurance card.
