Once a year, Yokohama National Health Insurance sends a "medical expenses Notice" to the head of the household, which shows the total amount of medical expenses for all households who have consulted a medical institution.
The medical expenses Notice is a notice sent to raise awareness of the mechanism of the National Health Insurance burden on medical expenses and the health of everyone.
For more information, please contact each ward office Insurance and Pension Division National Health Insurance Section (the bottom of the page).
medical expenses Notice and medical expenses Deductions during 2023
The medical expenses notice for medical treatment from January 2023 to December was sent out on February 13, 2024. It will arrive at your hand from the day after shipment to one week later.
This medical expenses Notice is available for filing a medical expenses deduction. However, some consultations may not be listed in the notice, or the name of a medical institution may not be listed. In that case, it is necessary to supplement the medical expenses notice and prepare a separate “medical expenses Deduction Statement” separately, and you will have to keep the receipt after filing.
You may also need to correct the amount of medical expenses paid.
Due to the enforcement of a law that partially amends the employee health insurance Law, etc. on October 1, 2020, it has been banned from requesting the provision of insured person identification number for purposes other than to carry out business in employee health insurance or related affairs.
Therefore, when sending the medical expenses notice to the tax office for medical expenses deduction, please mask your insured card number by yourself.
For details on the medical expenses deduction, please check the NTA website (external site) or contact the tax office that has jurisdiction over your area.

Handling of Personal Information in medical expenses Notice
Sending a notice from the medical expenses of all households to the head of the household corresponds to the provision of personal information to a third party, but it is difficult to confirm the intention of all the members in advance, so if there is no notice that the individual does not agree, it will be deemed that the consent has been obtained in accordance with national guidelines. If you do not agree to send the medical expenses notice to the head of household, please contact the Insurance and Pension Division National Health Insurance Section of each ward office.
