Standard burden for meals at the time of hospitalization
Burden of food and living expenses when hospitalized in a medical bed
Regarding the cost of meals during hospitalization, the cost of ingredients must be borne as the “standard amount (per meal unit, up to three times a day)”. Judgment methods and amounts vary depending on the age as of the 1st of hospitalization month. If you are under 70 years old, please see (Table 1) and if you are over 70 years old (Table 2).
The standard burden is not subject to the calculation of high medical costs and the large sum of nursing care expenses.

For those aged 65 and over who are hospitalized on a recuperation bed, in order to balance the burden with The Long-term Care Insurance, food expenses (equivalent to foodstuff costs + cooking costs) and living expenses (equivalent to utility costs) as standard burdens. I will bear it. Note 1) Only hospitalization for the treatment of a certified disease is eligible.
Note 2) This is the category of those who belong to households where the head of the household and all members of the National Health Insurance are exempt from residence tax. If the hospitalization month is from January to July, the classification will be determined based on the resident tax calculated from the income of the previous year, and from August to December, the resident tax calculated from the income of the previous year. In addition, it is not this classification when there is person who cannot confirm income in household.
Note 3) In the past 12 months including the month, those under the age of 70 are "resident tax-exempt households" and those over the age of 70 are "low income II".
Note 4) If you become a new insured person due to transfer, etc., you will also be eligible for the medical insurance enrollment period you have subscribed to.
Note 5) If the head of the household and all members of the National Health Insurance belong to a household that is exempt from residence tax and the hospitalization month is from January to July, the income of the previous two years, and if August to December, there is no income from the previous year (the public pension deduction is determined as 800,000 yen. If employment income is included after the medical treatment in August 2021, 100,000 yen will be deducted from the amount of employment income. ) Those who belong to the household are eligible.
Note 6) It depends on medical institutions. Please ask your medical institution to find out which amount will be.
If you are under the age of 70 and belong to a household exempt from residence tax, or if you are 70 years or older and fall under low income I or low income II, you can apply to the ward office Insurance and Pension Division in your ward. You will be issued a “National Health Insurance Limit Application / Standard Burden Reduction Certificate” (this will reduce the standard burden), so please show it at the window of the medical institution.

About National Health Insurance limit application authorization
If you are unable to confirm your online qualification, or if you are forced to show the “National Health Insurance Limit Application / Standard Burden Reduction Certificate” and you pay the normal cost, you will be paid the difference based on the application .
However, please note that two years after paying the fee, the statute of limitations will expire and you will not be able to apply.

※If you want to transfer money to an account other than the head of household, you need private seal (the name of the head of household using vermilion).
