Payment of medical expenses (if refund is available)
In the following cases, you will be responsible for the entire cost once. Please apply to the ward office National Health Insurance Section with necessary documents such as insurance card and application form later.
If the National Health Insurance examines and finds it unavoidable that the insurance could not be used, 70% of the insurance coverage (80% before elementary school, 90%, 80% for 70 years or older)・ 70% (*)) will be refunded.
Please note that it takes about two to three months to be paid for the examination.

※Please note that two years after payment to a medical institution, the statute of limitations will expire and you will not be able to apply.
※80% or 70% of those aged 70 and over will be refunded from 2019, but before 2018, some people were refunded by special measures.
Case 1 When insurance cannot be used due to emergency or other unavoidable circumstances such as sudden illness (when you could not bring your insurance card)

What is required for application
- Receipt
- A statement that shows the details of the medical treatment

Case 2 When a treatment device such as a corset
What is required for application
- (1) Doctor's opinion
- (2) Receipts and Statements
※Except for elastic clothing, (1) must be the date when the insurer confirms the wearing of the treatment equipment, and (2) must include the name of the prosthetic orthotian who was involved in the creation of the orthotics. - When a shoe orthosis is created, a photo of the orthosis. (It can be confirmed that the actual product is actually worn by the patient.)

Case 3 When receiving treatment by a judo reduction teacher (If you present your insurance card by "Receipt commission payment", you may only need to pay a partial contribution)

Case 4 With the consent of the doctor, when undergoing a beam, moxibustion, or massager (If you present your insurance card by "reception commission payment", you may only need to pay a partial contribution) )

Case 5 When receiving treatment at a medical institution due to illness or injury overseas
(Note 1) Travel for therapeutic purposes is not eligible.
(Note 2) Medical activities not covered by insurance in Japan are not eligible.
What is required for application

- (2) Receipt statement and statement that describes the details of medical treatment

※If you are unable to confirm the fact of travel with your passport, you must request the Ministry of Justice to disclose your immigration record and submit a certificate of immigration. - Letter of consent (*)

Other precautions
※ When applying, an application form is required in addition to the above "Required for application". You can find the necessary documents in your ward office, National Health Insurance Section. In addition, we can download from medical expenses supply application (PDF: 144KB).
※Out-of-pocket expenses (partial contributions) may be covered by high medical costs.
※Doctor's consent is required when undergoing a judo reduction teacher due to a fracture or dislocation.
※"Receipt commission payment" is a treatment in which a partial contribution (20%, 30%) is paid at the time of treatment and delegate the receipt of the remaining amount to the practitioner.
※After applying for insurance medical treatment, after applying, we will examine the contents of the medical treatment and compare the amount replaced when receiving insurance medical treatment in Japan with the actual cost on site. The out-of-pocket amount is calculated based on the cheaper one, and the excess amount will be paid as overseas medical expenses. Please note that it takes 2-3 months to be paid for review.
※Overseas medical expenses is very low or expensive when compared to medical treatment in Japan. Therefore, please note that the amount paid locally and the amount paid are not necessarily proportional.
