[Scholarship Recruitment Start] Yokohama City Scholarship for the Disabled

For the purpose of promoting the social independence of the physically handicapped, we will provide financial resources (scholarships) to those who have difficulty in paying their financial resources due to economic reasons and who have decided to be hired by selection. We carry out scholarship supply business ".

We are recruiting Yokohama City Scholarship Students for the Disabled in 2024.

Application period

From Monday, April 1, 2024 to Monday, May 27 (※ postmark valid on the day)
※Applications for this year will not be accepted outside of this period.
 Those who received the scholarship in 2023 will also apply if they wish to apply again in FY2024.

Application requirements

  • Either the person or guardian has been living in the city for more than one year.
  • Have a certificate of the physically disabled.
  • Being enrolled in the following schools and aiming for social independence.

High school (including majors and separate courses)
Secondary school (including majors and separate courses)
C. 3rd grade or lower (private only)
D. High School of Special Needs School (including majors and separate courses)
University (including junior colleges, graduate schools, vocational colleges and junior colleges)
Ph. 4th and 5th grades of high school
G. Vocational schools and various schools
Faculty Training Institution
※Please note that among high schools, etc. that are subject to the "Law Concerning the Payment of High School Enrollment Support Fees", ordinary courses of national and public schools are not eligible. In addition, depending on the school type, there are requirements that are not applicable, such as in the case of a national public school. Please be sure to check the application guidelines.

  • Good academic performance.

The average evaluation of all courses taken in the previous fiscal year was 3.00 or more 
However, if there is physical education or health and physical education in the course subject, the evaluation can be excluded.

  • Belonging to a household where it is deemed difficult to bear financial resources.
    The annual income of the largest income earner who is responsible for the applicant's livelihood must be equal to or less than the income threshold (*) set by the city.
  • Other requirements
    A. Age requirement
    Those who do not reach the age of 60 during the application year.
    B. B bachelor's requirements
    Those who have acquired a bachelor's degree of graduation qualifications, such as re-entering a bachelor's degree (transfer), only those who are deemed to promote social independence.
    C. Recommendations
    If it is not listed in the findings column of the recommendation record from schools, etc., it will not be considered as if academic ability cannot be determined.

※The number of dependent relatives is an income declaration, and includes those under 16 years of age who are declared as dependent relatives.
※If the number of dependents exceeds 5, 380,000 yen will be added for each additional person.
※In addition, there are various deductions such as deductions for persons with disabilities.

Payment period

One year from April 2024 to March 2025 within the regular training period at each school, etc. 

Payment method

After notifying the recruitment decision, the amount paid for one year (monthly payment x 12 months: There is an addition of 5,000 yen or less for April only) to the designated financial institution account.

Monthly payment

In addition to the monthly payment amount, there is an additional 5,000 yen for April only as a payment at the time of admission or going on to school.
In addition, the amount of payment (both monthly amount and additional amount) may be reduced because it will be paid within the budget.

  • Those who are enrolled in a high school, secondary school or technical college in the third grade or lower grades
    Within the case of national and public, within 7,000 yen
    Privately within 10,000 yen
  • Those who are enrolled in special needs schools within 6,000 yen
  • Those who are enrolled in a university or college of technology in the fourth grade or higher
    18,000 yen or less for national and public.
    Within 21,000 yen for private use
  • Those who are enrolled in vocational schools or various schools and who are enrolled in specialized courses of vocational schools that meet the following requirements
    ①The period of study must be at least 2 years
    ②The total number of lessons required to complete the course must be 1,700 hours or more.
    18,000 yen or less for national and public.
    Within 21,000 yen for private use
  • Those who are enrolled in vocational schools or various schools other than those listed above 11,000 yen
  • Teacher Training Institution
    18,000 yen or less for national and public.
    Within 21,000 yen for private use

Payment period

It is within the regular training period at each school, etc., and is one year from April 2024 to March 2025.

Payment method

After notifying the recruitment decision, the amount paid for one year will be transferred to the designated financial institution account in a lump.
You do not need to refund unless there is a special reason, but if any of the following applies, you will need to return the scholarship.

  • When a leave of absence, transfer, or drop out of school without good reason
  • When academic performance or sex is extremely poor
  • When there is no prospect of studying due to illness or other reasons
  • When there is a reason for not requiring a scholarship
  • When both scholarship students and their guardians no longer live in Yokohama.
  • When you decline to be a scholarship student.
  • Others When the scholarship student deems inappropriate.

Application method

Applicants must submit documents to schools, etc., and submit them to Yokohama City within the application period.

  1. Applicants are required to fill out the “Application for Scholarship for the Physically Handicapped (Form No. 1)”, prepare the required documents, and submit it to the principal, etc. (In the case of a university, the Dean of the Graduate School, or the director of the institution is acceptable).
    ※The form is distributed by City of Yokohama, Child and Youth Bureau Children with Disabilities Health and Welfare Division and each ward office (Health and Welfare Center).

  2. School principals should prepare a “Recommendation Record (Form No. 2)”, summarize the required documents, and submit it by mail to Health and Welfare Division with a disability City of Yokohama, Child and Youth Bureau.

If there are any missing or deficiencies in the submitted documents, you may be required to resubmit or additional submission. Also, please note that submitted documents will not be returned.

Those who are newly enrolled or transferred from April 2024 (in the case of new students and transferees)

Please prepare the following documents. "Recommendation Certificate" and "transcript" created by your previous school are required.

If you are unable to issue a "Recommendation Certificate" or "transcript" because you have graduated from your previous school for more than 5 years, you must submit a "Certificate of Recommendation" (a certificate specified by the school proving that grades cannot be proved).
In this case, you will be required to submit a “Recommendation Record” as an additional document after the first grade is obtained from your current school. After that, the selection will be made, the time for the decision will be delayed. Please contact us for more information.

Those who have been enrolled in the current school, etc. before March 2024 (for current students)

Please prepare the following documents.

Decision on recruitment (non-recruitment)

The results of the selection will be notified to the schools in which they are enrolled and the applicants by the end of July.

Return of this scholarship

This is not required in principle, but scholarships must be returned if any of the following special reasons apply.

  • When a leave of absence, transfer, or drop out of school without good reason
  • When academic performance or sex is extremely poor
  • When there is no prospect of studying due to illness or other reasons
  • When there is a reason for not requiring a scholarship
