Total | Points |
(The Fagerstrome Test for Nicotine Dependence:Heatherton, 1991)
Let's look at the total score by adding the scores in Question 1 to 6 (in parentheses). Please refer to the appropriate smoking cessation method for each dependence.
Scores | Nicotine dependence | One-point advice on smoking cessation |
---|---|---|
0 to 3 points | Low (Light smoker) | In general, people with lower nicotine are easier to quit smoking. Nicotine withdrawal symptoms do not appear so bad. On the other hand, "habital dependence" may be strong. Habital dependence, unlike nicotine dependence, is psychological or something like "guss", so it can be troublesome. Don't be careful. |
4 to 6 points | Usually (Middle smoker) | This is the average level of nicotine dependence. For about a week after you start smoking cessation, you may be physically and mentally affected by nicotine withdrawal. Of course, there are individual differences, but some degree of preparation is required. The key to success lies in choosing the right smoking cessation method for you. It is recommended that you use smoking cessation aids. |
7 to 10 points | High (Heavy smoker) | Due to the high dependence on nicotine, smoking cessation increases the withdrawal symptoms. However, in these symptoms, it will be easier as long as nicotine gets out of the body. The duration of symptoms varies from person to person, but consider it 2 to 4 weeks. In order to survive this difficult time, we strongly recommend that you consult a medical institution and receive smoking cessation treatment. |
Once you know your dependence, you're finally trying to quit smoking. For information on how to quit smoking, see Various Smoking Methods.
If you are considering smoking cessation treatment (insurance coverage) at a medical institution, see Smoking Treatment at a medical institution.
