About the impact of the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake at Yokohama Port
City of Yokohama, Port and Harbor Bureau's message is posted on the March 11, 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake.
In the wake of the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake that occurred on March 11, I am deeply sorry for the enormous damage in the region, mainly in the Tohoku region.
At Yokohama Port, although some port facilities were damaged, emergency construction has already been completed and the port functions as usual have been restored. In addition, we are formulating a supplementary budget and making every effort to complete maintenance.
In addition, nine prefectures, including Yokohama City, urgently requested the Prime Minister to ensure a stable supply of fuel for shipping, cargo handling machinery, trucks, etc.
In addition, in response to the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, Yokohama City has released measurement data of radiation dose [γ (gamma) line] by the Institute for Environmental Science, 33 nanograys per hour [nGy/h] as of noon on March 18, and no numerical value affecting health has been shown. ※。
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is also providing measurement data for Yokohama and Tokyo on its website (with English version).
We hope that Yokohama Port users will continue to check the information provided by the government and use Yokohama Port.
※According to the website of a specialized agency, it is 0.0008mSv [mSv] even if it is 10 hours at [nGy/h] point per hour [nGy/h]. This is as low as about 1/200 of the radiation dose received on an airplane trip to New York, so it does not affect the human body. "

At Yokohama Port, in response to radiation leakage from the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, we are conducting measurements of radioactivity in the atmosphere and seawater in the port jointly with Yokohama Port Wharf Co., Ltd.
As a countermeasure against leakage of radiation from TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, we (Yokohama City and Yokohama Port Corporation) have measured radiation dose in the atmosphere and have measured radioactivity in the seawater of Yokohama Port.
Please see the website of Yokohama Port Wharf Co., Ltd. for the status of measurement.
