Impact of the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake in Yokohama Port
The message of Director City of Yokohama, Port and Harbor Bureau will be posted on March 11, 2011.
Following the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011, we were deeply hurt by the devastating damage in areas centered on the Tohoku region.
At Yokohama Port, although some of the port facilities were damaged, emergency construction has already been completed and the port function has been restored as usual. In addition, we are compiling a supplementary budget and are making every effort to complete maintenance.
In addition, nine cities, including Yokohama, urgently requested the Prime Minister to ensure a stable supply of fuel for shipping, cargo handling machinery, trucks, and trucks.
In addition, in response to the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, Yokohama City has released radiation measurement data of radiation dose [γ (gamma)] by the Institute of Environmental Science. As of noon on March 18, it is 33 nanogray hour [nGy / h], and no numerical value affecting health is shown. ※。
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is also providing information on measurement data for Yokohama and Tokyo on its website (English version available).
We hope that Yokohama Port users will continue to check the information provided by the government agencies and use Yokohama Port.
※According to the website of a specialized institution, "Even if you are at the point of 100 nanogray hour [nGy / h], it is 0.0008 mSv [millisievert]. This is a low figure of about one-200th of the radiation dose received on an airplane trip to New York, so it does not affect the human body. "

In response to radiation leakage from the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, Yokohama Port is jointly measuring radioactivity in the atmosphere and seawater in the port in cooperation with Yokohama Port Wharf Co., Ltd.
As a countermeasure against leakage of radiation from TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, we (Yokohama City and Yokohama Port Corporation) have measured radiation dose in the atmosphere and have measured radioactivity in the seawater of Yokohama Port.
For the measurement status, please see the website of Yokohama Port Wharf Co., Ltd.
