Photochemical smog generates a high concentration of photochemical oxidants, mainly in summer when the temperature is high and solar radiation is high. In the Tokyo metropolitan area, a photochemical smog advisory is issued every year, and it is important to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are the main causative substance. In addition, VOC emissions reduction is considered to be effective in reducing fine particulate matter (PM2.5).
In nine prefectures (Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Yokohama, Kawasaki, Chiba, Saitama, Sagamihara), as part of photochemical smog measures, June to September was set as a priority implementation period, and widely call on businesses and residents to reduce VOC emissions, and work on improving photochemical smog.
June to September is the “Summer VOC Measures” priority implementation period! (PDF:572KB)
