If you can't keep a dog or cat
Last Updated June 15, 2022
About life-long breeding
Animal owners must strive to keep them for life (property until they reach their end of life).
Please keep it responsibly until the end.
If you can't keep it due to unavoidable circumstances, look for a new owner.
Picking up animals is the last resort after trying to keep them and finding new owners.
If you can't keep it
If you are unable to keep animals due to unavoidable circumstances and cannot find a transfer destination, please contact Health and Welfare Center Health Sanitation Division in your ward.
In the case of dogs or cats, the city may pick up animals for a fee after consultation in advance, but in the following cases (*), it may be refused (animals that cannot be kept other than dogs or cats) We do not pick up).
In addition, dogs and cats once picked up cannot be returned in principle.
※The Act on the Protection and Management of Animals has been amended, and prefectures can now refuse to take care of dogs or cats if the following items apply:
(1) When a dog or cat dealer asks you to pick it up
(2) If you are repeatedly asked to take over
(3) If you are asked to take care of a puppy or kitten and do not respond to guidance to take measures to limit breeding.
(4) When a dog or cat is requested to be picked up for reasons such as aging or illness of a dog or cat, or for reasons that it is not deemed difficult to breed the dog or cat
(5) If you have not been working to find a new owner in advance to request a pickup.
