Duties in charge of investigation, etc., Policy Coordination Division

In order to properly maintain and manage waste incineration plants and waste landfill, the Policy Coordination Division analyzes exhaust gas, wastewater, and incinerated ash generated from these facilities, as well as investigates and researches on pollution prevention and studies to improve facilities.

Last Updated November 5, 2021

Exhaust Gas Survey

Photo of exhaust gas measurement

We also investigate the performance of exhaust gas discharged from waste incineration plants and pollution prevention equipment (equipment to remove dust, equipment to purify exhaust gas, etc.).
We are also investigating gas generated from the waste landfill.

Water quality survey

Photos of water sampling from a pump to investigate water quality

We conduct surveys of waste incineration plants and surveys of wastewater and well water from landfill.

Solid matter survey

Photographs of cinders being collected with a scoop

We investigate cinders (incinerated ash) generated from garbage incineration plants and soot collected by dust collectors. It is used as necessary materials for landfill disposal and resource recycling.

Garbage composition survey

Photographs of garbage classification work

We investigate the proportion of kitchen garbage, paper waste, plastic, etc. contained in business-related waste from household garbage and business sites, and use them as materials to determine the amount of waste, separation rate, and resource recycling rate of Yokohama City as a whole.
As for the details, please see page of garbage composition investigation.
In addition, we are investigating food (food loss) that can be eaten but discarded.
For details, see the page on the amount of food loss generated from homes.

Survey on Environmental Conservation

A photograph of a sample of dioxin measurement in the atmosphere using a dedicated instrument at landfill.

We conduct surveys on the impact on the surrounding environment at Shinmeidai disposal site and Minamihonmoku waste landfill. In addition, we conduct surveys on dioxins at waste incineration plants.
For the survey results, please see each page of Minamihonmoku Waste landfill Environmental Survey, Shinmeidai Disposal Site Environmental Survey, and Dioxins Survey of Waste Incineration Plant.

Radioactivity survey

Photos of air dose measurement using a scintillation counter

In order to ensure the safety and security of citizens, we investigate the concentration of radioactive materials (cesium-134 and cesium-137) derived from the nuclear accident contained in the drainage of landfill, and strive to properly maintain and maintain facilities and prevent the elution of radioactive cesium. We also measure air doses using scintillation counters.
For the survey results, please see the page on the measurement status of radioactive material concentrations and air doses at landfill and waste incineration plants.

Other Surveys

We are conducting surveys on the recycling of incinerated ash and the effects of the Yokohama 3R Dream Plan.
In addition, we also estimate the impact on the surrounding environment of facilities under the jurisdiction of Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau, the working environment to ensure the safety of staff working in the facilities, and the status of greenhouse gas emissions from waste disposal.
For information on waste disposal and greenhouse gases, please see the page on dewarming and heating, starting with waste reduction.
