Policy Coordination Division Operations

In charge of the Policy Coordination Division, the Policy Coordination Division analyzes exhaust gas, wastewater, incineration ash, etc. generated from these facilities, with the aim of properly maintaining and managing waste incineration plants and waste landfill.

Last update date November 5, 2021

Exhaust gas survey

Photograph of exhaust gas measurement

We also investigate the performance of exhaust gas emitted from waste incineration plants and the performance of pollution prevention equipment (e.g., dust removal equipment, equipment that purifies exhaust gas, etc.).
We are also investigating gas generated from waste landfill.

Water quality survey

Photograph of water being sampled from a pump to investigate water quality

We conduct surveys on discharge from waste incineration plants and wastewater and well water from landfill waste.

Solid matter investigation

Photograph of cinder being collected with a scoop

We investigate cinders (incinerated ash) generated from garbage incineration plants and soot collected by dust collectors. It is used as a material necessary for landfill disposal and resource recycling.

Waste composition survey

Photographs of garbage classification work

We investigate the percentage of kitchen garbage, paper waste, plastic, etc. contained in business waste from household garbage and business sites, and use it as a material to determine the amount of waste, separation rate, and resource recycling rate in Yokohama City.
For more information, please see the page of the garbage composition survey.
In addition, we are investigating food (food loss) that can be eaten but discarded.
For more information, see the page on the amount of food loss generated from homes.

Survey on Environmental Conservation

Photograph of landfill collecting samples for measuring dioxin in the atmosphere using a dedicated device.

We are investigating the impact on the surrounding environment at the Shinmeidai disposal site and the Minamihonmoku Waste landfill. In addition, we conduct surveys on dioxins at waste incineration plants.
For the survey results, please see each page of Minamihonmoku Waste landfill Environmental Survey, Shinmeidai Disposal Site Environmental Survey, and Waste Incineration Plant Dioxin Survey.

Radioactivity Survey

Photograph of air dose measurement using a scintillation counter

Investigate the concentration of radioactive materials (cesium 134 and cesium-137) derived from the nuclear accident contained in drainage of landfill in order to ensure the safety and security of citizens, and strive to properly maintain facilities and prevent the elution of radioactive cesium. In addition, we also measure air dose using a scintillation counter.
For the survey results, please see the page on the measurement status of radioactive material concentration and air dose measurement at landfill and waste incineration plants.

Other Investigations

We are conducting surveys on the recycling of incinerated ash and the effects of the Yokohama 3R Dream Plan.
In addition, we also estimate the impact on the environment surrounding facilities under the jurisdiction of the Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau, the working environment to ensure the safety of employees working within the facility, and the status of greenhouse gas emissions from waste disposal.
For information on garbage disposal and greenhouse gases, please see the page on dewarming and warming.
