Amount of food loss generated in FY2022 (FY4)

About 50% of the household kitchen garbage comes from home, food loss is caused by untouched food (food that is discarded untouched), leftover food, and excessive removal (eating of edible parts such as vegetable skins).
Based on the results of a garbage composition survey in fiscal 2022, the amount of food loss generated from households was estimated to be approximately 87,000 tons.
