Q&A related to sorting

Last Updated October 1, 2024

We will answer questions received from citizens.

Q
Do you mind if I take the umbrella as it is?
A

What can be removed should be separated into a metal frame and a cloth / vinyl part.
Even if the metal frame is 30 cm or more, please put it out in a bag as "small metals" (the same day as "cans, bottles, plastic bottles"). If you have more than one, please fly it out.
Put the cloth and vinyl part in a transparent or translucent bag and put it out as "burnable garbage".
If there are parts that cannot be removed, please put them out as "small metals" as they are.

Q
I'd like to put out the syringe I used at home.
A

If you want to put it in burnable garbage, put it in a hard container where you can check the contents and close the lid.

Q
I'd like to put out plastic garbage.
A

From October 2024, how to separate and dispose of "plastic garbage" differs depending on the ward where you live in in order to promote the separation and recycling of "plastic garbage".
For details, please refer to the following link depending on your ward.
If you live in Asahi Ward, Isogo Ward, Izumi Ward, Kanazawa Ward, Konan Ward, Sakae Ward, Seya Ward, Totsuka Ward and Naka Ward, please click here.

If you live in Aoba Ward, Kanagawa Ward, Kohoku Ward, Tsurumi Ward, Tsuzuki Ward  , Nishi Ward, Hodogaya Ward, Minami Ward and Midori Ward, please click here.
※From April 2025, it will be the same way in all wards.

Q
Do I have to remove the stickers on plastic containers and packaging wraps?
A

Remove anything that can be easily peeled off. If it's difficult to remove, you can leave it on.

Q
How much should I remove the dirt of plastic containers and packaging and plastic resources?
A

Use up the contents of bags and tubes. For trays, cups, bottles, etc., use the remaining water from dishwashing as much as possible to lightly rinse or remove dirt.

Q
Plastic containers and packaging and plastic resources are bulky when storing, but are there any ideas?
A

Please make sure that the bulky items are smaller or stacked.
In addition, please use center recycling and store collection of supermarkets (milk packs, food trays, plastic bottles, cans, bottles, etc.).

Q
There is a recycling mark called paper (identification mark for paper containers and packaging). Is it related to separation?
A

Identification mark for paper containers and packagingThe mark is an identification display for "paper containers and packaging", which is a guide to being paper, but some are not applicable by Yokohama City separation.
Identification mark for paper containers and packagingPaper packs with aluminum affixed inside and cup noodle paper containers should be put out as burnable garbage instead of recycle paper.

Q
When is the collection of recycle paper used cloth taking place?
A

recycle paper and used cloth are collected by private collection companies contracted by local organizations such as Neighborhood Association and Neighborhood Associations.
For this reason, the registered organization and the collection company determine the contents of the collection date and collection place.
For the collection date, see the blue sticker affixed to the collection place.
If you can't find the blue sticker, we'll check it out at the collection office in Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau. Please contact the Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau office in your ward with detailed information on Address.

Q
Can I use a plastic string or plastic bag when taking out the recycle paper?
A

From the viewpoint of promoting recycling, we would like you to use paper strings and paper bags as much as possible to avoid mixing anything other than paper, but if you do not have it, tie them with vinyl strings or "Other paper" You can put it in a translucent bag.
