History of abandoned bicycle measures in Yokohama City

In the 1950s, abandoned bicycles became a problem nationwide due to the rapid increase in the use of bicycles, and Yokohama City began studying solutions.
First, model district activities were carried out from 1958 to 1959. This is a model station for one ward and one station in one ward, and with the cooperation of local residents, activities aimed at establishing ordinances, such as public awareness and moving long-term abandoned bicycles. Maintenance of bicycle parking lots

In Yokohama City, we have developed a municipal bicycle parking lot with a capacity of about 100,000 units so far to prevent abandoned bicycles and create a traffic environment that makes it easy to use bicycles. In addition, we carried out some subsidy projects for maintenance costs to private businesses and promoted bicycle parking measures.
In addition, as a measure to park bicycles used by visitors to stores and residents of apartments, etc., when building or expanding customer-acquisition facilities and apartments that generate demand for bicycle parking, the installation of bicycle parking lots is required. The ordinance was enacted in 2018 to promote the establishment of an appropriate number of bicycle parking lots.

Promoting the Use of Bicycles

Self-rolling vehicles are convenient and close vehicles that have less impact on the environment and lead to health promotion. In Yokohama City, in March 2019, based on national trends and related plans, in order to promote the safety of both self-turn vehicles and walkers, and to promote the use of self-turn vehicles from the viewpoint of enriching life, in March 2019 We formulated the "Yokohama City Self-turn Vehicle Use Promotion Plan".
Based on this plan, we aim to create a bustling and migratory town, and promote the creation of a self-carriage environment that everyone can enjoy comfortably and comfortably from daily life to leisure.
