Networking between water reclamation centers (promotion of advanced treatment)

Last Updated January 29, 2019

<Development of the Hokubu No.2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Third Pump Facility>

1 Purpose of Business

In sewage treatment in Yokohama City, we are promoting the advanced treatment of facilities in line with the renewal of treatment facilities in order to reduce the pollution load of discharged water into public water bodies.

In advanced treatment, sewage treatment time is longer, so the existing pond capacity is insufficient. Therefore, in Hokubu No.1 Wastewater Treatment Plant and Kanagawa Wastewater Treatment Plant, where there are no sites for additional facilities, we are planning to send sewage that cannot be treated to Hokubu No.2 Wastewater Treatment Plant, where advanced treatment facilities are located. This plan is called "networking."

By using the existing trunk line that is already in use for water supply, a network can be built with minimal facility maintenance. Currently, a pump facility has been installed in Hokubu No.2 Wastewater Treatment Plant to pump up sewage.

Through networking, in addition to the advanced treatment of each water reclamation center, it is possible to renew and rebuild aging facilities, and in the event of a disaster such as an earthquake, mutual complementation of treatment functions (risk diversification) in the event of a disaster such as an earthquake. Three Effects of Networking

(1) The advanced treatment of the northern part of Kanagawa Wastewater Treatment Plant is progressing.
It is possible to convert existing standard legal facilities into advanced treatment facilities in the Northern No. 1 Kanagawa Wastewater Treatment Plant, where there is no room for the site. During the remodeling, the sewage from the stopped pond will be sent to Hokubu No.2 Wastewater Treatment Plant via a network for processing.
In the future, we plan to send water to the Hokubu No.2 Wastewater Treatment Plant after deducting the increased amount of inflow and the capacity of advanced treatment centers that have undergone advanced treatment.

(2) It is possible to complement each other's sewage treatment functions in the event of a disaster.
Even if the sewage treatment function is stopped in the event of an earthquake or other disaster, it will be possible to complement each other's functions by sending water to the Hokubu No.2 Wastewater Treatment Plant and processing it at an advanced treatment facility that can withstand level 2 ground motions.

(3) It is possible to renew and rebuild aging facilities.
In order to renew and rebuild aging facilities, including the old Hokubu No.1 Wastewater Treatment Plant, which has been old for maintenance, will be sent to the Hokubu No.2 Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment.
