The Summer Vacation Children's Environmental Science Class 2024, which was scheduled to be held on August 16, was canceled due to the approach of Typhoon No. 7. The experimental notes scheduled to be distributed at this event will be released.

Outline of the event

The Yokohama Institute of Environmental Science will hold a "Summer Vacation Children's Environmental Science Class" for 4th to 6th graders and their parents on Friday, August 16, 2024. You can learn about the environment through participation in workshops, analytical equipment that you cannot usually see, and actual exhibitions of creatures in Yokohama. Let's have fun learning about the environment and become an environmental doctor! Please apply!

Afternoon: From 13:30 to 15:45

Targets and Capacity

  • Target: 4th to 6th graders and their parents (18 years old or older)
  • Capacity (planned): About 100 people in 50 groups in each section

Workshop

Let's observe various ants!

There are about 100 kinds of ants in Kanagawa Prefecture. Know the ecology and how to distinguish them, and become Dr. Ari!

Let's science the color!

Let's do a paper chromat experiment that separates the color of aqueous pen with paper and water!

Challenge the dissection of Niboshi!

That "Niboshi" is used for cooking dashi and delicious to eat as it is. Let's have fun learning about the body of the fish!

You can also experience mini experiments and crafts held at each booth while observing analytical instruments that you cannot usually see and real exhibits of creatures in Yokohama.

Microplastic experience Let's observe microplastics from the sand collected on the coast of Yokohama!
Exhibition and experience of atmospheric sampling equipment Let's gather the atmosphere with the power of "vacuum".

JR Keihin Tohoku Line / Negishi Line: A 15-minute walk from Shinkoyasu Station
Keihinkyuko Line: 15 minutes walk from Keikyu Shinkoyasu Station
Municipal bus system 19: Take "Shinkoyasu Station" and get off at "Ebisu-cho" 3-minute walk.

(Note) There are no parking spaces or bicycle parking lots for the general public, so please use public transportation when you come to our laboratory.
