[Before recruitment start] Summer Vacation Children's Environmental Science Class 2024 (held on August 16, 2024)

Outline of the event

Yokohama Institute of Environmental Science will hold a "Summer Vacation Children's Environmental Science Class" for 4th to 6th graders and their parents on Friday, August 16, 2024. You can learn about the environment through participation in workshops, analytical instruments that you can't usually see, and exhibits of real creatures in Yokohama. Let's have fun learning about the environment and become an environmental doctor! Please apply for it!

Date and time

Friday, August 16, 2024
Morning part: From 9:15 to 11:30
Afternoon session: From 13:30 to 15:45

Target / Capacity

  • Target: Grade 4th to 6th grade and their parents (18 years old or older)
  • Capacity (planned): About 100 people in each section 50 groups

Participation fee

Free of charge

Application method (first come, first served)

Application start: 10:00 on Thursday, July 11, 2024
Application deadline: Tuesday, August 13, 2024

When application start date is reached, link to Yokohama-shi electronic application, report system is displayed.
Please apply from there.


At the time of application, you will need to select one workshop or exhibition tour course you want to participate in.

Precautions at the time of application

  • Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Each course will be closed as soon as the capacity is reached.
  • If there is a cancellation, you will be able to select it from time to time. We do not respond to waiting for cancellations, so please check by yourself.
  • One or more guardian (18 years old or older) must be accompanied.
  • Parents and children can participate in up to 3 people per group. (The course is the same.)

Contents

We will hold workshops and experience corners such as facility tours.

Workshop

Let's observe various ants!

There are about 100 species of ants in Kanagawa Prefecture. Know the ecology and how to distinguish it!

Let's science color!

Let's do a paper cromat experiment that separates the color of a water-based pen with paper and water!
(There is a facility tour time available.)

Challenge the dissection of a blurry!

"Niboshi" is used as a soup stock for cooking, and delicious to eat as it is. Let's have fun learning about the body of fish!

Facility Tour & Mini Experiment Course

You can also experience mini experiments and crafts performed at each booth while observing the analytical instruments that you can not usually see and real exhibits of Yokohama creatures.

Mini experiment
Microplastic experience Let's observe microplastics from the sand collected on the coast of Yokohama!
Exhibition and experience of atmospheric sampling equipment Let's gather the atmosphere with the power of "vacuum".
Ground model experiment Let's use a model to find out what kind of ideas are available for tunnel construction and cliff work.

  • Writing utensils

※Please come in clothes that can be dirty.

JR Keihin Tohoku Line/Negishi Line: A 15-minute walk from Shinkoyasu Station
Keihinkyuko Line: A 15-minute walk from Keikyu Shinkoyasu Station
Municipal bus 19 system: Take the "Shinkoyasu Station" and get off at Ebisucho 3 minutes walk.

(Caution) There is no parking lot for the general public or bicycle parking lots, so please use public transportation when you come to our institute.

Precautions

  1. Wearing a mask is at your own discretion.
  2. Please take measures against the heat, such as parasols, hats, and salt replenishment.
  3. On the day, the staff of the institute may take photos and publish them in public relations magazines.
