"Children's Adventure College 2022 Summer Vacation Children's Environmental Science Class" was held.

Last Updated October 13, 2023

The Institute for Environmental Science held the “Children's Adventure 2022 Summer Vacation Children's Environmental Science Class” for elementary school students in the city. We had various experiences about the environment through experiments and observations with a program on the theme of microplastics, heat survey, and cicada found in Yokohama.

  • Date of implementation: August 18, 2022
  • Implementation site: Yokohama Institute of Environmental Science (5th floor, Shibusawa ABC Building 1, Ebisu-cho, Kanagawa-ku, Yokohama)
  • Number of participants: 20 elementary school students (18 parents, etc.)

Summer Vacation Children's Environmental Science Class

We will introduce the contents of the experimental notes and the state of the day for each program.

Water Environment Problems-Let's examine microplastics-

We simulated a microplastic survey in the sand on the coast. In addition, we actually analyzed using equipment.

Let's know the summer of Yokohama-Heat Shirabe using a camera and cicada shells-

Using a thermo camera, I checked the surface temperature and learned about heat of vaporization. I learned ecology about the cicada seen in Yokohama. I actually observed the shell.

Voice of Participants

  • I was surprised that there was a lot of plastic in the sand on the beach. This time, I wanted to go to various sandy beaches and find out how much microplastic is contained.
  • I would like to make use of the experiments I did with the thermo camera to find out what I would do around me to cool and to see if there is nothing other than watering.
  • By observing the cicada shells, I didn't know that there was such a difference between male and female. It was really fun this time.

Thank you very much to everyone who responded to the questionnaire. I would like to refer to it so that future experimental classes can be made more enjoyable.
