Request to Ougai Mori-Why is the lyrics Ougai?
It is not clear why Ougai Mori is a lyricist. According to Ougai's diary, on March 21, 1909 (Meiji 42), proxy/agent Seijo Miyake of Nobukata Mitsuhashi of The Mayor of Yokohama visited Ougai and asked him to write lyrics for city songs. On the other hand, there is also a story from Ougai saying, "Tokyo Music School has been invited to make a song for the opening of Yokohama for 50 years." Based on these facts, there is a theory that Yokohama City first asked the Tokyo Music School and guessed that the school had bridged to Ougai.

Production process - the song first, the lyrics after
The Yokohama City Song was made by creating a song first and adding a song to the song (communal lyrics and tenshi). It seems that this was an unusual method at that time. On June 6, 1909 (Meiji 42), Ougai, who was invited to a music school from the south, wrote, "I saw the music of Yokohama City Song and immediately wrote the lyrics." According to Ogai's talk, he proposed the method himself. It was the first time that such a proposal was made, so the school seemed surprised and pleased.

Was. South was 27 years old at that time. At that young age, I have composed many school songs for schools requested by Tokyo Music School. In the combination with Ougai, I also produce "Susumu Misawa-sensei Shotoku no Uta" (see column "Y School and Ougai Mori & Nannoei").

Communication to elementary schools
According to Imao Hirano (poet and French literary scholar), a student at Oimatsu Elementary School at that time, in 1909 (Meiji 42), all students were gathered during the summer vacation, saying, "Teachers of great scholars in Tokyo are Yokohama City. I've got it up. " And the principal brought back the city song from the city hall, "all the students on both sides of Nogezaka were waiting under the midsummer sun." After that, "Now Hyakufune Hyakufune" was "Now I eat peach and get hungry.…"I heard that the song was popular.

For the spread of city songs
In 1966 (Showa 41), the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra was invited to Kanagawa Kanagawa Pref. Concert Hall to perform. Mayor Asukata instructed the song of Yokohama at the encore, but at that time there was no orchestra version of the city song, so he gave up at this time. In addition, there was a proposal by Yoshiko Sato (a vocalist), who was a member of the city's Board of Education at that time, and the "Yokohama City Song Spread Special Committee" was held in the same year. . The members were Yoshiko Sato, composer Higashiroku Takagi, permanent conductor Kojiro Kobune, Yokohama Municipal Sakuragaoka High School Teacher Hiroya Murayama, music supervisor, elementary school music study group representative, but Toroku Takagi declined. , The other five people will revise it.
Major points of revision
1 Change
The original song is tolength, but the highest sound in the song was too high to sing, so we moved to modulus (for general use) and He-cho (for school or choir).
2 Correction of the rhythm and pitch of the melody
Due to complex pitches and rhythms, parts that are difficult to sing have been repaired.
3 Repair of piano accompaniment and production of orchestral version
The piano accompaniment and orchestral version were arranged by Kojiro Kobune.
