What is a Historic Site?
Among the archeological sites, historical sites are indispensable for the correct understanding of Japan's history, and those with high academic value, such as the size, remains, and excavated relics, are called historical sites.
About construction in designated historic spot
In the city, there are historic sites such as the precincts of Shomeiji Temple, the Sandendai Site, the Choinagiri-dori, and the Otsuka and Toshikatsudo Sites.
In these historic sites, permission from the Commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Board of Education is required to apply for a "application for permission to change the status quo" when constructing or renovating a building or modifying the topography such as embankment. . If you do not receive permission or change the status quo without complying with the terms of the permission, you may be punished by law (Article 197 of the Cultural Property Protection Act). In addition, it takes about 3 months for permission to be granted.
If you have any of the following plans, be sure to consult with the City of Yokohama, Board of Education Secretariat Lifelong Learning Cultural Properties Division Cultural Properties Section in advance.
