What is medical assistance?
Medical assistance under the Public Assistance Act provides medical benefits to those who cannot maintain a minimum level of living due to poverty. (Article 15 of the Public Assistance Act)

Method of medical assistance
Medical assistance is provided by Health and Welfare Center in each ward to medical institutions designated by the Public Assistance Act, in principle, through in-kind benefits. (Article 34, Article 34-2 of the Public Assistance Act)

Procedures such as application and abolition are accepted at any time, so there may be cases where the designated procedure is in progress even if it is not posted, or cases where it is posted but is in the process of abolition. Please use it as a reference.
In principle, the payment of medical assistance must be made in advance. If you are receiving a medical examination in social security, please consult with your caseworker before consulting. If you are consulted during a time when the ward office is not open, such as on a holiday or at night, please show your holiday / night medical treatment request certificate and consult, and notify the case worker in charge immediately at a later date.

Medical treatment policy and medical fees
The medical treatment policy and medical fees of the designated medical institution depend on the examples of medical fees and medical fees of the National Health Insurance. In addition, for those who are eligible for medical care for the latter-stage elderly, it is supposed to be based on the medical treatment policy for the latter-stage elderly medical care and examples of medical fees. (Article 52, Article 52-2 of the Public Assistance Act)

However, please note that there are the following exceptions.
○Non-insurance combined medical expenses: Except for a part, it is not allowed.
○Dentistry: As a dental material, the use of more than 14 carat gold alloys is not allowed.
Request for medical fees
If Health and Welfare Center outsources the treatment of a patient, it will issue a medical ticket to a medical institution. After receiving this medical ticket, the medical institution will post the necessary information on the ministerial ordinance receipt common to each law and request it from the social insurance medical fee payment fund of each prefecture. (Article 53-4, Paragraph 4 of the Public Assistance Act)
Scope of medical assistance
Medical assistance applies to all diseases.
In that case, if you are eligible for benefits under other laws, such as employee health insurance or other institutions, you will be given priority to medical assistance. (Article 4 of the Public Assistance Act)
