Lecture 3

In the lecture, two lecturers gave lectures on their activities at the United Nations Bureau of Disarmament and the Technical Cooperation Bureau of the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as initiatives of the United Nations, and the world situation. He talked about how he became a UN official.
Mr. Kono introduced the NPT and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, the confinement between nuclear and non-nuclear weapon states and security issues, and Mr. Furusawa introduced examples of nuclear technology, including PCR testing machines, agriculture, health and medical care, and cultural properties, as well as the status of WLB and gender balance in international organizations.

During the Q&A session, there were questions about the content based on the invasion of Ukraine, questions about the response to Japan in the international community, and the differences in working with private companies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and international organizations.
In addition to the two lecturers, Mr. Kuramochi of the United Nations Japanese Staff Association also participated and received specific answers and advice based on his own background and experience in the field.

From the students who participated.
"It was a very interesting message about the need for nuclear disarmament, but also to know that there are things that can be done only because of nuclear weapons, but also to know that there are things that can be done because of nuclear weapons."
"I was surprised at the large amount of Japan's contribution to international organizations. I didn't know until now that almost all international organizations would be in the top five contributions."
I received such an impression.
