Based on the "Law Concerning the Use of Wood in Public Buildings" promulgated in May 2010, Yokohama City formulated a "policy on the Promotion of Use of Wood in Public Buildings in Yokohama City" in 2014 to promote the use of wood.
In June 2021, the Law was amended to the "Law Concerning the Use of Wood in Buildings for Contributing to the Realization of a Decarbonized Society" and expanded its scope to include buildings in general, including private buildings. As a result, Yokohama City has also newly formulated the "Policy for Promoting the Use of Wood in Yokohama City Buildings" and will continue to promote the use of wood in public buildings.

Encourage private buildings to promote the use of wood and strive to gain their understanding and cooperation.
Public buildings that the city maintains
- Actively promote wooden construction in public buildings.
- Promote the wood conversion of interiors, etc., focusing on areas where citizens are considered to have many opportunities to see. (Entrance hall, reception desk, lobby, corridor (lumbar wall, floor, etc.))
- The wood used is wood and local timber from Kanagawa Prefecture as much as possible.
※Regional materials: Wood produced in metropolitan prefectures and Shizuoka prefectures belonging to the Kanto Koshin region
※If it is difficult to secure timber, domestic timber
Use of wood products made of public buildings, dissemination of advanced technologies, etc.
- We will also use wood as a raw material for various products such as building materials, equipment and consumables.

Environmental Consideration Standards for Public Buildings
The standards for environmental considerations required for public buildings maintained by the city are defined in the "Environmental Consideration Standards for Public Buildings in Yokohama City," and is promoting the reduction of environmental impact andconservation in the surrounding environment.
In this standard, we determine the amount of wood used in public buildings and promote the use of wood.
Target value of wood used
When building or expanding, use the following amount of wood specified below

In addition, the parts of use and buildings that fall under the following shall not be included in the target floor area at the time of calculating wood consumption (m3/m2).
- Facilities that are difficult to make wooden or woody due to laws and regulations such as the Building Standards Law and facility installation standards.
- Facilities that are difficult to make wooden or wood due to the special characteristics such as the use of facilities, security, and maintenance.
- In addition, there are reasons for difficulty in making wooden or wood.
However, even if it is difficult to make wood or wood, consider the use of wood for parts that are visited by citizens and used for general use, such as building entrances, reception desks, and facilities for visitors, etc. We will strive to make wood.
