Do you know the sport called Mölkky?
I was interested in where men and women of all ages can do it, so I decided to talk to Mr. Ikegami, the representative of the Yokohama Tsuzuki Morc Club.
Before that, let's briefly explain the "Molk".

*Skittle (backward photo) /* Molk (foreground)

Molk is a sport originating in Finland that can be played by a wide range of age groups.

  • Skittle: Wooden pins (about 15cm in height)
  • Molk: Throwing stick (about 20cm in length)
  • Throw the molk from a distance of 3 to 4 meters and defeat the 12 skits.
  • If more than one skittle falls, the number of falls is the score.
  • If there is only one skit that has fallen, the number of that skit is scored.
  • It's better to score 50 points first!

It is scored by the way the pin falls down.

What's interesting is that the skittle can be set up again in the place where it was defeated. As the game progresses, the position of the skittle expands, making it difficult to defeat. In addition to your own score, take into account the score of the opponent, and defeat the skit to make it difficult for the opponent to get that score. For example, if the opponent gets 50 points with 5 more points, you can interrupt the opponent's victory by defeating the 5-point skit.

The bargaining of winning or losing in this game is difficult and deep. Communication is also necessary to think about strategic law, which leads to the harmony of the team.

Mr. Ikegami (left), the representative, graduated from work at the age of 77. When I was looking for what to start because I had time, I watched "Molk" on TV (New Year 2021). I thought it would be interesting, so I bought the equipment at once. Mr. Ishino (right) says that the Morck taught by Mr. Ikegami is very fun and continues forever.

When you concentrate on molk in the park, many people come together.

When Mr. Ikegami was doing morque alone, the number of people interested was gradually increasing, and it was said that he would create a group of morques. In March 2021, the birth of the Yokohama Tsuzuki Molk Club. After that, I browsed the website of the Japan Molk Association, and with the help of Mr. Ishino, who joined at that time, became a formal registered organization in 2023.

The great thing about this sport is that you can interact with a wide range of age groups, from young people to the elderly.

Various people are involved, and the circle of Mork is spreading.

Ikegami himself sometimes participates in the Tama River tournament held once a month. About 300 people participated there, and I feel that Molk's awareness is spreading more and more. In addition to daily practice, there are also inquiries from community care plazas and elementary schools, etc., and hands-on sessions are held. There were about 60 participants in elementary school. They are making their own teams and participating in district competitions. There is also a story about participating in the national convention. Connection with people has become a major pillar of our activities, and the number of Molk organizations in the region is steadily increasing.

When playing molecks in parks and hands-on events, there are also elements of play, so the throwing distance is shortened for children, and the number of people is made to create a team suitable for the spot. Just one person can enjoy arranging strategies alternately assuming the opponent's team. There are about 3 groups of 3 people per team that are easy to play. The looseness of the setting that allows the rules to be devised according to the number of people and the situation leads to the molk that anyone can do.

Yeah! And threw the molk

Both children and the elderly are enjoying themselves anyway.

People who pass along are watching the game and have fun communicating. Mr. Ikegami says that a child like a great-grandson happily reports, "Oji, I've done this!"

It is a sport called Molk that can be enjoyed by people who do not have physical strength or those who have handy bodies.

We talked to two motivated people who want to continue activities rooted in the community. Mr. Ikegami's glittering and happy smile and Mr. Ishino's gentle gaze were impressive.
