How to separate and dispose of garbage and recyclables

Home disposal procedures

  • Please take it out to the collection site by 8:00 a.m. on the day of collection. Do not put it out on the night before or after collection.
  • Please cooperate with burnable garbage, non-burnable garbage (glass / pottery, fluorescent lamp / light bulb), spray cans, dry batteries, plastic containers and packaging, cans, bottles, plastic bottles, and small metals.
  • Please put it in a translucent bag for each item.
  • Garbage that has not been sorted or garbage that has been incorrectly collected on the day of the collection day. Enlightenment sticker is attached and left. We may impose fines on citizens and businesses that do not separate even if repeated guidance is given.

oversized garbage applications cannot be accepted even by calling the ward office or collection office.

Special disposal procedures

How to put out household appliances such as TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, etc.

TVs, air conditioners, washing machines / clothes dryers, refrigerators / freezers cannot be collected as oversized garbage.
Based on the Home Appliance Recycling Law, home appliance retailers collect and home appliance manufacturers recycle them.
If it is no longer necessary, ask the retailer who purchased the product or the newly purchased retailer to collect it and dispose. (charged)

Collection of small household appliances

Yokohama City collects and recycles small home appliances such as mobile phones, digital cameras, and notebook PCs for the purpose of effective use of resources. Put it in the pink collection box at the next installation location.

  • Once placed in the collection box, it cannot be returned.
  • For products that contain personal information, delete the personal information before putting it in the collection box.
  • Remove batteries, light bulbs, and fluorescent lamp before putting them in the collection box.
  • Items that do not fit completely into the collection box cannot be collected.

Applicable small home appliances

Products that operate on electricity and batteries with a length of less than 30 cm that enters the input port of the collection box
Mobile phones, digital cameras, game consoles, laptops, personal computer peripherals, codes


Collection of rechargeable batteries (such as lithium batteries)

Do not mix electronic devices including lithium-ion batteries, heated cigarettes, electronic devices, and other electronic devices, including lithium-ion batteriesnon-burnable garbage. This may cause ignition trouble in the recycling plant.
Rechargeable batteries should be placed in the yellow cans and rechargeable battery recycling box at the following locations.

  • Products with built-in batteries can be taken out as small home appliances even if the battery cannot be removed.

Eligible rechargeable batteries

Lithium-ion batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries
It is used in mobile batteries, e-cigarettes, smartphones, electric toothbrushes, and electric shavers.

Mercury thermometers, sphygmomanometers and thermometers

Unnecessary mercury thermometers, sphygmomanometers, and thermometers at home are collected at the Sakae Ward Office Regional Promotion Division window (46th floor on the 4th floor) and Sakae office.

Animal corpse

If you find dead animals, please contact the Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau Sakae Office (891-9200).

Prohibition of illegal dumping

Illegal dumping is prohibited by the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law. Violation can result in imprisonment of up to 5 years or a fine of up to 10 million yen.
It is also a crime to leave products subject to oversized garbage and home appliance recycling in a collection site. Please follow the rules and dispose of it.

If you see illegal dumping

If illegal dumping is dumped on private land, the owner / manager of the land / building will respond. If you are damaged by illegal dumping, please contact your nearest police department.
Regarding illegal dumping on public roads, etc., please contact the Public Works Office Ward, the administrator, so please contact us.
In addition, in ward office, we hand illegal dumping measures signboard to prevent illegal dumping. Please contact Regional Promotion Division Resources Reuse Promotion.

Community cleanup

We distribute garbage bags for community cleaning used in Neighborhood Association and Neighborhood Associations. If necessary, please contact Regional Promotion Division Resources Reuse Promotion.
If a large amount of garbage comes out during community cleaning, please consult the Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau Sakae Office (891-9200) before discharging.
