At the Nishiya Water Purification Plant, a basic plan was formulated in 2015 with the business scope of the renewal of a filter pond and the establishment of a new granular activated carbon treatment facility.
However, the basic plan was revised in order to realize the early treatment of the entire amount of water rights in the Sagamiko system and expand the water supply area of the Nishiya Water Purification Plant, a natural flow system. In this review, we considered the headrace, water purification treatment, and wastewater treatment as a series of systems, proceeded with the study from the overall optimum perspective, and formulated a basic plan that expanded the business scope to water purification treatment facilities and wastewater treatment facilities.
At the Nishiya Water Purification Plant, facilities have been sequentially earthquake-resistant, but there are currently issues with aging and earthquake resistance in filtration ponds. For this reason, in the future, we will promote the earthquake resistance of these facilities and carry out redevelopment, including the introduction of a water purification treatment method suitable for raw water quality.
This time, in addition to the water purification treatment facility, we have compiled an outline of the basic plan for redevelopment, including related facilities such as the basic concept development of the adjacent Yokohama Water Supply Memorial Hall.

At the Nishiya Water Purification Plant, some facilities have issues with aging and earthquake resistance, so we are considering redevelopment. On the other hand, in water purification treatment, powdered activated carbon is injected as a countermeasure against odor caused by the growth of algae in the water source Sagamiko, but it is difficult to perform stable treatment especially when the water quality fluctuates rapidly. It is in a difficult situation.
Based on this situation, we are studying the introduction of appropriate water purification treatment methods according to the water source water quality, and as one of them, we started joint research with private companies on granular activated carbon treatment in FY2011, We have been conducting demonstration experiments for introduction.
Furthermore, in December 2012, we established the Nishiya Water Purification Plant Water Purification Method Study Group, which is made up of outside experts, and have been examining while seeking opinions from specialized knowledge.
This time, we have compiled a report on the results of our studies on the optimal water treatment method to be introduced to the Nishiya Water Purification Plant.
