Survey of asbestos use in school facilities, etc. (First Report) (FY2005)

The Board of Education conducts surveys on asbestos-containing spray materials at school facilities in order to ensure safety measures for elementary school student students. It is in the process of investigation, but as of August 29, the use of sprayed materials containing asbestos was found at Midori Elementary School and Namiki Daiichi Elementary School.

1 Midori Elementary School

(1)Asbestos used
Amosite (tea asbestos) containing 50% of amosite (tea asbestos) above the window (about 2.8m above the floor) 2 locations (about 2m2)
(2)Scatter volume survey
We will promptly investigate the amount of scattering in the air.
(3)Measures
After the scattering volume survey, enclosure work will be carried out this week to ensure safety.
(4)Temporary closures
From Tuesday, August 30, 2005 to Friday, September 2

2 Namiki Daiichi Elementary School

Namiki Daiichi Elementary School
(1)Asbestos used
Chrysotile (Shiraishi cotton) 1 to 5% classroom ceiling, etc.
(2)Scatter volume survey
No scattering is seen with less than 0.11 per l. (equivalent to the surrounding atmosphere)
(3)Measures
Since there was no scattering and safety was confirmed, measures will be taken using winter vacations.
