Survey of the actual situation of asbestos-containing spray materials in school facilities (interim report) (2005)
Last update date September 15, 2020
1. Outline of survey
A fact-finding survey was conducted during the summer vacation to investigate the use of asbestos-containing spraying materials at municipal school facilities. In the survey, spraying materials and felt materials were sampled, and samples were analyzed sequentially. As a result of the analysis, if the use of asbestos is found, a scattering survey is conducted to check the asbestos scattering status in the air as necessary. (Felt material: folded plate backed as asbestos insulation)
・Fact-finding survey | In the survey, a visual survey was conducted on the buildings of each school. We conducted sampling of spraying materials and other materials that may contain asbestos and investigated the deterioration status. The collected samples are analyzed by the Institute of Environmental Science, and the type and content of asbestos are confirmed. (Analysis is expected to be completed in mid-September.) |
---|---|
・Scatter volume survey | If asbestos is found as a result of the analysis, a survey will be conducted to see if asbestos is scattered in the air in the sample space. The survey will be conducted with priority given to classrooms and corridors that elementary school student students use on a daily basis. |
2. Survey Status
As of September 9, 19 schools found that use asbestos was found.
Schools surveyed | Number of sampling schools | ||
---|---|---|---|
During analysis | Analysis of | ||
520 schools | 196 schools | 50 schools | 146 schools |
3. Future Actions
For schools where asbestos is found to be used, priority will be given to places where elementary school student students and others use them daily, taking into account the scattering situation. The measures include removal, containment, and enclosure. In that case, school closures should be considered according to the work situation. In addition, the survey results will be announced using the website, etc., including the status of measures.
