Survey of asbestos-containing spraying materials at school facilities (interim report) (FY2005)
Last Updated September 15, 2020
1. Overview of the survey
A fact-finding survey was conducted during the summer vacation to investigate the use of spraying materials containing asbestos at municipal school facilities. In the survey, samples were sampled for spraying materials and felt materials, and samples were analyzed sequentially. As a result of the analysis, if the use of asbestos is found, a scattering volume survey is conducted to check the asbestos scattering status in the air as necessary. (Felt material: Asbestos heat insulating material on folding boards)
・Survey | The survey conducted a visual survey of the buildings of each school. Samples of spraying materials, etc., which may contain asbestos, and investigation of deterioration were conducted. The collected samples are analyzed by the Institute for Environmental Science to confirm the type and content of asbestos. (The analysis is expected to be completed in mid-September.) |
---|---|
・Scatter volume survey | If the analysis reveals that asbestos content is contained, investigate whether asbestos is scattered in the air in the sampled space. The survey will give priority to classrooms and corridors used by elementary school student students on a daily basis. |
2. Survey status
As of September 9, there were 19 schools where asbestos was used.
Schools surveyed | Number of sample schools | ||
---|---|---|---|
Under analysis | Analyzed | ||
520 schools | 196 schools | 50 schools | 146 schools |
3. Future Responses
For schools where asbestos is found to be used, priority will be given to places where elementary school student students and others use daily. Measures include removal, containment, and enclosure, and in that case, school closures will be considered depending on the work situation. In addition, the results of the survey will be announced on the website, etc., including the status of measures.
