School area system for elementary and junior high schools

The city of Yokohama is based on a school district system in which Address designates schools to attend.
In addition, in order to resolve problems related to school districts and improve the educational environment for elementary school studenｔ students, based on the "Basic Policy on School Area System and School Size of Yokohama Municipal Elementary and Junior High Schools" (hereinafter referred to as the "Basic Policy"), we will proceed with measures to change school districts and make them elastic with the understanding and cooperation of parents and local residents.

The “Regulations Concerning the Designation of School Areas of Yokohama Municipal Elementary Schools, Yokohama Municipal Junior High School and Yokohama Municipal compulsory education School and Schools to be enrolled” stipulates the school districts of Yokohama Municipal Elementary Schools, Junior High School, and compulsory education Schools and the necessary/required procedures for the designation of schools to be enrolled in.

A system that allows students to choose between the designated school (regular school) or schools other than designated school (acceptance school) specified by the superintendent of education, taking into account the conditions of school facilities and school roads.

Among the compulsory education schools that practice distinctive education, schools designated by the Board of Education based on the initiative and facility conditions of each school are subject to certain conditions and allow students to study outside the school area.
