Q

How should I dispose of garbage from stores and offices?

Last Updated April 3, 2023

Waste and recycling
A

In principle, Yokohama City does not collect waste (business-related waste) generated from business activities (regardless of profit or non-profit).
Please dispose of it yourself, or entrust it to a licensed contractor (licensed contractor) for general waste collection and transportation for general waste, and for industrial waste, to dispose of it.
Discharge of business waste to a collection site in household garbage may result in punishment by law.

Please refer to the “How to Separate Business Garbage and Resources” on the Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau website to ensure thorough sorting. (Please note that this is different from household garbage's classification rules.)

In the case of self-treatment, the city's incineration plant accepts recycle paper (newspapers, magazines, cardboard, OA paper, paper packs, mixed paper) and industrial waste (plastics, metals, etc.) that can be recycled.
Recycling recycle paper products that can be recycled should be recycled by asking a recycle paper supplier.
Other recyclable items (kitchen garbage, plastics, metals, etc.) should be recycled by licensed companies (some permissions may not be required).

When discharging garbage, drain the water well, install a plastic bucket or net with a lid on the premises to prevent scattering by small animals such as crows, and discharge it in a way that does not impair the aesthetics of the city.
