The city, together with Kanagawa Prefecture and related cities around the base, has requested the national and U.S. military to eliminate aircraft noise around the base, including night continuous take-off and landing training (NLP) for U.S. aircraft carrier-based aircraft at Atsugi Base. ing.
The main noise problems in the city are caused by U.S. aircraft carrier-based aircraft passing over the city when taking off and landing at Atsugi Base, located about 2 km west of Seya-ku, Yokohama.
The city, together with Kanagawa Prefecture and related cities around the base, has requested the national and U.S. military to eliminate aircraft noise around the base, including night continuous take-off and landing training (NLP) for U.S. aircraft carrier-based aircraft at Atsugi Base. ing. In response, in February 2002, the government announced that the Japanese and U.S. governments agreed to "imple as many NLPs as possible on Iwo Jima." In May of the same year, the U.S. military announced a decision to "permanently abolish" the demonstration flight that had been being carried out.
In May 2006, at the U.S. Forces Reorganization Consultation in Japan, 59 aircraft, such as aircraft carrier-based aircraft, which were the main cause of noise damage, were transferred from Atsugi Airfield to Iwakuni Airfield by 2014, and the United States agreed to select a training facility at the earliest possible time thereafter, and a Cabinet decision was made to implement it.
However, in January 2013, the Minister of Defense made it possible for the transfer of aircraft carrier-based aircraft to the prefectural cities of the Atsugi Base Noise Countermeasures Council, three years later from the originally scheduled 2014 (2014), It was shown that it would be around 29 (2017). In response to this, in May 2013, the government, etc. to provide information to local governments on the specific schedule and progress of relocation, prospects for the development of permanent training facilities, noise reduction until transfer, etc. As a framework, the Council on Transfer of aircraft carrier-based aircraft from Atsugi Airfield" was established.
In FY2022, 35 complaints about aircraft noise were received to the city
